Is Apple sold out so far now that you can’t even pre order? No matter the color, etc it does not allow me to click “add to cart”

usually I’d expect a far out estimated ship date but it just says shipping is not available.

Considering the keynote mentioned the device not being available until next month, it should be expected that you can’t pre-order yet.

I thought pre-orders were already available.

There's never been an option to place an order. Since it was announced, all you can do is view pricing and check out the colours. No date has been announced for placing orders/preorders other than "October".

So no, it's not sold out. It hasn't even gone on sale yet!

Purchasing is not available until October. I tried to purchase the Sky Blue 256 today... will have to wait.

And we don’t ever know when in October. Don’t assume that it’s on October 1st, because if it was they would probably have just said so.

Typically they ALWAYS state a pre order date if its not going to allow you to start ordering right away, I have never seen Apple announce an iPad and then not even give a pre order date, Thats why I was asking. I know it does not go on sale until October (Which I have never seen them not give an exact date for that either) so I thought maybe people already ordered all the allocation. Hopefully a date will be given soon.

My guess:
They likely wont ship the new iPad Air until after the iPhone 12 is announced. They won't want to spoil more about the A14 chip.

Pre-orders probably won't go live until at least invites go out for October event, or possibly not until the actual date of the next event.

The whole set up is kind of weird. The iPhones are delayed by a few weeks according to Apple Senior. That puts us in October. The iPad Air isn’t coming out until October; yet they introduced it anyway in September. Would’ve been nice to just introduce the iPhones and iPads together with a “Pre-orders starting in October.” I’m skipping both products this year, but I still like to see what’s up their sleeve annually.

If they want the iPhone 12 to be the first A14 device, why did they even announce the Air 4 like a month or more early?

I hope they become available soon! :(
Great time to check out a refurb 2018 Pro if you’re into that kind of thing. Better prices and equivalent/better performance. Got a 1TB cellular model from Amazon for less than the cost of a 2020 128GB cellular.

Edit: I see you have a 2020; so, disregard me lol

and rumors are the iPhone 12 will launch in October and the iPhone Pro's will not deliver until November. I upgrade annually so I am hoping the Pro's are not pushed to November lol

Actually my iPad Pro stopped charging, and Apple said it would be $500 just to look at it, that wasnt including any repairs, and said it would be cheaper to just buy a new iPad, so I bought the 10.5 iPad Air 3 months ago, and my wife now wants it since her iPad is the older 9.7 Pro, so she told me to get the new Air (She said get the Pro but Im not spending another $800 after my first 11 Inch pro did not last long) so I was going to order a blue iPad for me.

We all know what's happening, right? COVID-19 makes producing a product like this in sufficient numbers and in accordance with Apple's standards extremely difficult, so the iPads aren't ready to ship. The fact that there are some in the wild doesn't change that -- Apple needs many thousands to be ready immediately if it's going to allow ordering.

In the meantime, Apple decided it was still best not to risk stealing iPhone's thunder with the iPad announcements at the same event. Pretty simple.

You can probably expect it in early October.

Logically -

1. If Apple wanted to save the A14 surprise for iPhone 12, they wouldn't have launched iPad Air in September.

2. If Apple wanted to wait for iPhone 12 to become available, they wouldn't have launched iPad Air in September.

Right now, Apple can't take orders for iPad Air (2019) or iPad Air (2020). Why would Apple put themselves in this position unless orders will be made available soon?

I don't really buy the idea that they don't want to steal the iPhone's thunder. They have made pretty significant iPad releases alongside iPhone launches before, including announcing the very first iPad Pro and launching iPad Mini 4 at the same event as the iPhone 6s.

I don't know. I still feel that if it was going on sale early in the month they would have just said the date. I think that vaguely saying "October" implies a later release. Saying "October" half way through September makes it sound like it's just around the corner and gets people excited, but it also means you didn't lie if you know it's not actually going to available until several weeks later at the end of the month.

Just a reminder that when the iPad Magic Keyboard was announced in March, it stated it would be available for order in May. It rolled out end of April. Most people were forecasting end of May.

I’m not implying it will be available for order this week or next, just that this year things are really fluid.
