Should just move the 10.5 iPad Pro into the $499 rang and call it a day. It offer way less than 10.5 iPad Pro, except the processor part.
In much the same way Apple didn't just reduce pricing of the iPad Air 2 to $329 and called it a day, I expect they couldn't lower MSRP of the iPad Pro 10.5 pricing to $499 without cutting into profit margins either. The reason the iPad Air 3 costs less is because it's cheaper to manufacture.

Someone acknowledging that there are people buying iOS devices for their looks (probably more like hey, look at me, I’ve got a brand new iPhone) doesn’t equate to that person himself buying devices for decoration.

I feel like I should point out though:
iPhone
3G - new design
3GS - white
4 - new design
4S - white (not initially available for 4, iirc)
5 - new design
5S - gold
6 - new design
6S - rose gold
7 - jet black
X - new design
XS - gold

Personally, I always go for boring slate/space gray/(matte) black.
I agree with a lot of what you say, and would add that recently I've been on the side of the fence that says they really haven't changed the design since the 6. I mean sure antenna lines and glass vs aluminum and of course the X has the full screen size, but the actual frame of the iPhone really hasn't changed drastically since the 6 up until and including the XR and XS.

In fairness there's not much you can do to spruce up rectangular glass slab.

$500 for laminated screen with digitizer and a very fast A12 chip? I am overwhelmed!

A very good summary indeed.
