What I have been wondering when reading the discussion about Applecare is that does the home insurance differ much over there in the states and UK.

Here the accidental damage is covered under home insurance with the deductible of 100 euros per accident. Therefore the Applecare sounds really awfully expensive.

Insurance in the states is expensive and doesn’t cover damages on items without a huge deductible. My house flooded in 2016 and my insurance covered nothing. Not even the furniture. Without extra flood insurance we were left on our own to cover all damages, repairs, and replacing practically everything we owned. Yes we now pay for flood as well. Insurance agent said we would have been better off had the house burned to the ground. Go figure.

Sorry you had to go through that. Sounds awful. I remember reading the stats of people that have flood insurance is pretty low.

Definitely YES, I just bought an iPad mini and to my surprise Apple through the settings configuration on the iPad itself had an option (here in the US) to pay it monthly, $3.78 incl. taxes for 24 months. Any device that is in your hands and can fall to the floor needs an extra insurance, unless you can afford to buy a new one if broken, I can't.

An extended warranty, like any insurance, never pays off. Insurance is always about mitigating and spreading risk. You only buy insurance if you cannot afford the replacement cost -- house, car etc. For moderately priced things it's better just to replace/repair when they brake.

I wonder, though, with AppleCare+. Perhaps Apple has artificially inflated repair prices, so that AppleCare+ actually pays off? I doubt it, but the prices seem so high that one must suspect it.

That’s awfull. I am sorry for you loss. Basically around here the insurance companies pay very little for the items which are old but for the electronics no older than a few years insurance works well.

I thought I had settled on not (could save the money towards a new one if it went wrong from Year 3 onwards, as I don't upgrade regularly.) My current iPad is 6 and a half years old. Now I'm starting to reconsider it. I've had three Apple products before (2 iPhones and an iPad) and only purchased AppleCare+ once, on my iPhone 5s. Other than an issue which could likely have been easily solved via Google or even posting here if I hadn't had the AppleCare+ for live chat support, and the free swapping out of a broken lightening cable after 18 months (don't think it was technically covered but Apple replaced it free anyway) I never needed it.

I would definitely buy it I were getting the Pro (I'm getting the Mini) or if it also had theft coverage as I believe the iPhones do now.

Am I right in thinking we don't have the installment option in the UK? It would be another argument for it if we did, as I could do with the direct debit to meet a bank account requirement. That would then offset part of the cost.

What do you do?
What is your history with devices? If you generally can take advantage of having AppleCare then go for it... if not, don't.

I have never purchased AppleCare for any of my Apple devices that offered it. (somewhere near 40 devices in all) Not once could I have used AppleCare. I've saved a TON of money by not getting AC, which allows me to buy even MORE Apple devices.:D
