Apple has new Smart Folio cases for its latest M4 iPad Pro and M2 iPad Air models that boast a wider range of viewing angles, and thanks to Marques Brownlee, we now know how it's done.

With the help of some magnet paper, MKBHD reveals that Apple has added bigger, more cubic magnets to the M4 iPad Pro that align with a new longer rail of stripe magnets in the Folio Case, thereby achieving a wider range of viewing angle adjustment.

The magnet paper also reveals that, because of how thin the new iPad Pro is compared to the previous generation model, Apple has had to use flatter, more circular speaker drivers, which appear to be closer to the top of the device.

Apple is selling the new Smart Folio for the 11-inch iPad Pro in Denim, Black, and White. There's also a Smart Folio for the 13-inch iPad Pro in the same color options.

Similarly, you can get the Smart Folio for 11-inch iPad Air in Light Violet, Charcoal Gray, Sage, and Denim. There's also the Smart Folio for the 13-inch iPad Air in the same color options.

The 11-inch and 13-inch versions of the Smart Folio case for iPad Pro and iPad Air are priced at $79 and $99, respectively.

I’ve never bought a folio for my Pro, but with the new Magic Keyboard, I think it will be even less comfortable on a tray on a flight (in Economy), so I may consider getting a folio as well.

Does anyone have experience with the folio vs the keyboard on a flight? Is it less cramped ?

I last bought the iPad 7th gen and the Smart Cover was $40. Serious question: what makes the Smart Folio better/different that justifies the doubling in price to $80? (for iPad 10th gen)

It's personal preference but I bought a folio prior to the Magic Keyboard. I ended up removing the front part of the cover and using the back only when I wanted to be with just the iPad in hand. I cannot see myself without the Magic Keyboard daily. Its fantastic. I rarely ever touch the screen.

Nothing. It is just Apple tax.

Also, cases and cables are Apple’s worst quality products, their cases chip and look horrible shortly after, their cables self-destroy after 1 year. I have third-party cases that have lasted the entire lifespan of the device, and cables that are almost 5 years old with no sign of severa damage.

I dunno. I have the original usb-c cable from my launch day 2018 11" iPad Pro and we use daily to charge various devices (now coupled with the Apple compact dual usb-c charging block).

I'm shocked at how long this cable has lasted - almost 6 years! Apple cables are certainly more expensive, though!

Could be the same with the iPad Air? Mine certainly locks into place in two locations But seems pretty open to sliding between the two positions without issue.

I did the same thing as you. i bought a cheap $15 folio cover knockoff and cut off the front cover, giving me an inexpensive back cover that attaches magnetically to the back of my 2021 iPP for easy use when not using the Magic Keyboard.

I actually like the magnets for being able to adjust the angle more than the traditional folded triangle. And then it clicks in once you are past the variable adjustment points…

I was stupid enough to upgrade from iPad Pro 12.9 M1 to iPad Pro 13 M4 but everyday there are some nice surprises in the new design of the iPad, Smart case and Pencil pro that make me feel a bit less stupid. Like the sliding case.

I suspect that any of the folio designs from of the brands that make decent versions (eg ESR, fintec, jtech) will work the same even without special Modification. What will delay their availability will be if it is one that takes the shape of the iPhone into account.
I have gone with an ESR folio case which should arrive today So I will know. It isn’t intended to be long term as it doesn’t cover the sides, only attaching to the back magnetically, but none of the more traditional folios are available for Another week or so and I am travelling.

I was really hoping to keep using my Green Folio for a bit longer :< I really love the color.

Despite the magnets, a smartfolio for the M1 iPad Pro 11", will fit the new iPad Pro 11"?
The hole where the camera is, is it the same size?
No. The magnets are in the wrong places for it to hold properly. I also had the Folio Keyboard which didn’t work either for the same reason.

I was really hoping they would work. On the bright side for the person I have lined up for my M1 and Magic Keyboard they will be getting the other two covers as a bonus.
