With what? The eject tool or paper clip?
Eject tool or paper clip, they function the same. I used the eject tool from my older iPhone. If it's really stuck in there and you can't get it out even if you push really really hard I would go to the Apple store. The 7+ was definitely harder to eject though, probably because of the water resistant seals.

Here's the stage from iFixit that I was referring to:

This explains why the 'hole' on the exterior is not as deep as on previous models, and why it doesn't feel so natural when you press it.

The sim remove tool is still included with all new iPhones. Its held in small tabs inside the instruction booklet.

Why did Apple stop supplying them?

Weird it still ships with one over here. Seems kinda strange not to. One time i was at an airport and had to switch out my sim cards so i had to use a toothpick which broke off and got dtuck inside the hole. I eventually had to use something harder to kinda dig the toothpick piece even further inside. eventually it popped out thank god

OP I took my unopened box to Best Buy to get a screen protector and a case straight out of the box before ever using it. The guy at Best Buy said this series of iPhones take a lot push to open the tray and when I saw him do it, I was afraid he was going to ruin the device but no, it popped out with some effort.
If you still have problems don't send it back, it's likely not defective at all. Take it to your carrier or like I did, to Best Buy.

No. That used to be only with designated "unlocked" variants and not with standard versions bought from carriers. However, many international versions still come with the tool. Let me guess, you aren't in the States?

thanks for the thread, i had the same problem. tried with a couple of paper clips, found this thread, spent a few more minutes locating my sim eject tool (i knew it was around her somewhere!) and voila, problem solved.

definitely takes more force than my iPhone 6 to remove the sim.

With the additional waterproofing rubber gaskets the tray on the 7 'feels' a little stiffer to open than the 5 and 6 felt when swapping phones between me and my OH, just a bit of extra pressure required.

Also I think it it was iFixit who said because of the new waterproofing measures, the eject button now has an additional part, IE, before you used to press the button directly, now you press on an exterior button that then moves a pin to press on the 'real' button internally etc.

Best answer so far! I was afraid of pushing too hard and breaking it but the extra pressure worked like a charm! Thank you!!
