Transfer Email Attachments:

Hi everyone, I am a developer for the iPhone/iPod Touch platform, and I was wandering if anybody had any preferences for an App they'd like to see on the App Store.

I'm open to most suggestions.

Should I be able to transfer any Email Attachment to my PC or Mac, I would not need Tethering. Once in awhile in the field at a remote location all I have is my iPhone & a laptop (without phone card). While at this location, I have a need to load a new .xxx file into an RTU, someone would Email me as an attachment the new .xxx file.

An app that I want, was going to write, but just don't have the time to do it right now. Spelling lists for my kids. Here is how it works. Parent can run the app and in a password protected section, RECORD the spelling words one at a time, and then type in the correct spelling.

In the kids section, they can pick the list (all lists could be saved?) and they HEAR the word spoken to them and then they have to type it in.

If you make it, all I ask is for a free promo code. :D
I like this idea.

Another idea that I'd love to see, and there are apps that come close but aren't quite there yet, is a phonics soundboard with all the possible sounds for phonograms, diphthongs, diagraphs, word blends, and word families. I was just wishing for a quick reference for kids to use, like if they needed to look up a word blend under T, they'd simply tap T on the main menu, and get all the phonograms, diagraphs, etc for T, and then be able to choose the sound they're looking for and hear it. It would be great for reading, as even I'm not so familiar with the best way to teach all that.

There is a decent app that lists all those, but finding the sound requires I cycle through everything from A to S to find the T sound I'm looking for.

Not sure if it's officially entered public domain yet or not, but...

There already exists several "Bartending" Apps, which have thousands of recipes, whereas you enter what ingredients you have available, and it will give you suggestions based on the ingredients available.

Well... Being a Culinary Arts student, I would gladly pay upwards of $30 for an app using the same concept, only using every recipe in Escoffier's Le Guide Culinaire's English equivalent, Escoffier: The Complete Guide to the Art of Modern Cookery. Being able to search by ingredient would be a godsend to any aspiring culinary student, and professional as well. Like I said, I don't know if it's feasible because I'm not sure if it's entered public domain yet or not, but if someone were to do it, I'd be the first in line to purchase it (and I can think of about 100 others off the top of my head that would be next in line after me).

Hi, I'd really like to be able to sync my observations of children that I make on the playground to my Eprofile program which is used by schools across the UK. If I could type my obs into the phone and they wirelessly shot across to the program I'd be in heaven and it would save hours on paper work.... there is a program called 'Student Documentor' which is very similar but at £600 far too expensive for the average teacher to buy.
Thanks!

Did anyone take you up on your idea? :)

Hi - great idea! Do you already own the Escoffier book? Do you want the app to:
1 - search for recipes (by ingredient/type), get the page number then refer to the book, or
2 - have the whole contents of the book in the app?

Preferably #2, but searchable by ingredient/type, like you said. And yes, I do own it, along with Larousse Gastronomique, among other "classics". :p

Tracker app

Hi everyone, I am a developer for the iPhone/iPod Touch platform, and I was wandering if anybody had any preferences for an App they'd like to see on the App Store.

I'm open to most suggestions.

I would love to see an app that picks up a signal from a separate device (small tag) and shows you where it is like a locater. You could stick the tags for example: on your keys, on your cat, in your car, on the remote control, or on a child. If you cant find the tagged item you can use the app to locate it for you, showing you which direction to go. Imagine no more lost pets, children, keys, cars, remotes, other phones ect I think anyone would love an app like that :)

*waits for a new app to come out, probably called iHold - teaches you how to "correctly" hold your iPhone 4* :|

Pandemic 2

Please add a Pandemic 2 app game. Pandemic 2 is awesome and it would make a great app game.

I have an app idea. Remember when many stores had a customer service bell on the counter. I miss those, I hate yelling for help and would love an app that is basically a picture of that chrome bell that I could ding repeatedly for service. I think that app would be fun as he**!!!
I release all rights to this idea and will be your first customer.

A simple map, zoomable where you can add push pins to it without needing to have been there.

Perfect for people to mark which states and countries they've been to and which they'd like to visit.

Multiple colors and the ability add a note or photo to each site.

App Ideas are worth nothing

You cannot get a patent on an Idea, hence, they are worth nothing. Everyone and there brother has the next great iPhone App idea.

problem with threads like these---->

most of the truly good idea that will reach the audience that will yield profit for the developer:

-utilize codes that isn't allow by apple on the appstore or else it would of been done already

Split 50/50 between the guy who had the idea and the guy who actually makes it happen?

Ideas are not worth much. I'd buy someone a beer in return for an idea, if it was a particularly good one. Much more valuable is the interaction design (which involves hundreds of hours of sketching interfaces, trying mockups on the phone, drawing out common workflows and routes through your app), and the coding itself (a similar number of hours breaking the problem down into smaller steps, and wrestling with annoying bugs).

If by idea you mean something that can be summed up in two sentences, like "An app to manage your academic references, that lets you put in an author and date and it'll search google scholar for your article", then it's not worth anything much. If you mean something more elaborate, like the interaction design process I described above, then it might be valuable, if you're any good at it. But it's not a quick process: I'd expect many weeks' worth of work.

Sorry for a bit of a rant. I've just spent the entire day wrestling with a bug relating to reordering the rows in a table view, so I'm a bit annoyed at the perception that an idea is as valuable as the work of a good programmer.

Amorya
While to a degree you are right, a great design will put you streets ahead of other similar apps.

Real value will come from a fantastic idea, as the market is saturated with hundreds of thousands of similar concepts. Of course a two sentence idea is not worth a lot, but who said any of these ideas were that simple? If it's brilliant then they aren't going to want to reveal it on a public forum.
