I would’ve loved to have a 1st-gen SE on iOS 10 (you were lucky, A9 iPhones can’t be activated on iOS 9, I lost a 6s on iOS 9 due to that), it was the phone I wanted for years.
I have a 6s on iOS 10.0 that I use for music.

I will likely keep it there for now. I’m gonna probably get a case and a screen protector for it and use it for music and old games. It’s either that or just for looks, but its so nice condition and still usable so I’ll probably put it to some use.
Writing this now from the SE1. I'm honestly quite surprised at how fast it loaded up Macrumors. This thing feels like it was released more recently than 10 years ago. I'm also enjoying how iOS 10 flies and feels on this hardware. I'm less experienced with it. I'm used to 12 on a 5s and 15 on most SE1s. I do miss dark mode but I'll use another SE1 for those cases. This guy is gonna be my little reading machine. Best SE1 I've ever bought and a I've bought about 20 (all but 3 currently have been sold.)

Since replacing it with a 13, it has been a secondary device for TV shows and light internet browsing.

Very Nice! I got my first iPhone around that time and sadly didn't know about all the models I could've chosen so I ended up with an SE3. I still love the SE3 but I wish I had know about the OGSE or maybe the 13 Mini. I'm gonna get me a clear case like that for my OGSE.

@Andy_2341 - Congratulations on your "new" SE 1st Gen! Out of the four iPhones I've owned, the little SE that I had first was by far my favorite. Enjoy it!

When one hasn't held one in a while, picking up an SE1 and using it in your hand is just shocking.
It feels SO right and like a little piece of magic.
Modern iPhones just don't evoke this feeling, due to their size & heft (IMO).

Exactly - I could not have described it better.
They should update it with a better display and chip and usb-c and sell it below the e models as a true budget phone.

At this point, an equally large issue is software support for the display size.
I’m enjoying it! Although I’m considering updating it for App support and the ability to connect to my home wifi. It doesn’t like WPA3 on ios10 it seems.
It certainly does evoke a different feeling. I still get a sense of awe at the raw power of modern iPhones, but the power and packaging of the SE1 is a different feeling for sure.
True. What if there was a way for the display to scale itself for modern software designs? Can the device control the rendering like that or does it depend on the software?

Old iPhone models are usually performing well in their original major version and the next major version. In this case, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPhone SE 2016 perform well on iOS 9.x and iOS 10.x
The slowdown seems to start to show on the 3rd major version (counting the original release). Case in point: iOS 7 on iPhone 4s
I may be the only one that wishes for an updated iPhone 5c similar to how the iPhone SE 2016 was an updated iPhone 5s. I prefer the polycarbonate body with stainless steel frame of iPhone 5c compared to aluminum and glass combination of iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, and iPhone SE 2016.

You're not the only one who wishes for a smaller iPhone. Compared to my original iPhone SE, my (current) iPhone 17e is 1/2" wider (and almost an inch taller) that makes a noticable difference to me when grasping the phone with my small hand. In addition, I'm a very basic iPhone user since I accomplish most tasks on my MacBook Air.
Where is this line drawn of OS upgrades reportedly slowing down iPhones? What quatifies an old iPhone? I have an SE3 that runs like a champ on 26, it’s 5th OS version.

Exactly! However, redesigns are typically awful (see iOS 26). The iPhone 4s was destroyed on iOS 7, but the iPhone 5 was significantly affected, too.
The iPhone 6s (and SE1) was fine on iOS 9 and 10, far worse on iOS 11. The iPhone 7 was significantly impacted by the iOS 11 fiasco, however. After that it kind of gets better. The iPhone 8 is fine up until 14 at least (I have one there. It’s fine). The Xʀ was fine up until 15, etc.
Longevity gets better afterwards, and the exception is obviously 26 (it’s far worse on any 16 series model).
But with earlier models I absolutely agree: barring a redesign you typically had one major update, then it was garbage.

I know that the SE3 doesn’t have the same performance and battery life on iOS 26 than it had on iOS 15.
