I think the colors are pretty bad, overall.
At least worse than before.
No Orange?
Apple does not like Orange.

Fug-o-lee. And I don't see how "shorter + wider" adds up to "incredibly smaller."

Nice intros for the rest of the lineup (shuffle excluded), but I think Apple really screwed the pooch with this one.

So am I the only one under-impressed? Maybe they look better in person???

I'm under-impressed by the colours. I like the OS though. But the colours stink. If I need to get a new shuffle or nano, I'll be shopping for a skin to hide the shame.

I'm ok with the fat form factor, hate the colors though.
Worth it though for all the upgrades (video, games, coverflow,
new os). This is a great update!

Its gonna be big!

It ain't big but it's gonna be!

I think it's the best looking iPod by far!

It's so damn small - great spec and UI brilliant!

I'm getting on just got to decide on the color!

No TV-output on this or the iPod Touch ??

Found the info, all the new models have it, although it looks like it requires a different (and more expensive $49) cable and comes out through the dock port instead of the video port.

"Note: Component video output to television is supported by iPod nano (third generation) and iPod classic at 480p or 576p resolution, and by iPod touch at 480i or 576i resolution."

Incredibly smaller? It's the same thickness. And it's wider. Not as ugly as the spy shots, but still kinda odd.

I felt that way about the new iMac. So maybe it's better in person?

I remember a week ago when almost everyone was making fun of this thing in forums everywhere. People saying that better not be it, and now just because Steve touched it, everyone wants one.

It was ugly a week ago and it still is.

iPod Squattie? :) I do not know if I am down with the new form factor yet. long and thing vs short and fat...

Fugly. I don't like the click wheel sitting in all that white space. Makes the whole thing look sort of squat.

It's the rounded edges that kill it for me... makes it look like an oversized Chiclet. The fake mockup with the squared top and bottom was much more attractive, I think.

The pics on Apple.com don't even look like photographs, so I guess this'll be another case of "maybe it'll look better in person." Still a marked de-evolution in terms of industrial design as far as I'm concerned.

These ipods are included. Starting today, The rebate changed to $149 and you can either get the 4GB free (as you could prior to the anonucement) or you can apply the $149 to a bigger nano. Not sure if you can apply it to the classic or touch models.

i was very excited to read your post. i put a macbook in the shopping cart and chose the ipod rebate option. the new nanos are not reflected on the rebate page. do you have a link from apple stating that these new ones are indeed included in the rebate?

thanks,
~kyle

this from the rebate info sheet on apple's site:
Please be advised that Apple announced new iPods on September 5, 2007. These new iPods are not eligible for the Back to School promotion. Rebate claims submitted in conjunction with these products will not be honored.

Man, I appologize, I misread or read to fast. I am sorry, that these new ones are not included, what happened is the price of the old ones dropped.

Again, sorry to get your hopes up.

I said it looked good last week, and think it looks good now. People, white space is ok. Every square inch of the thing doesn't have to have a control on it.

Everyone who is upset about the empty space around the touch wheel has homework: go look up the Microsoft iPod video and watch it. White space is good.

Nike+ Nano? Touch? i-phone?

I'm unclear, is the new Nano OSX based? If it is and is also flash, what would keep you from using the Nike+ with the touch or i-phone. If it isn't, wasn't there some info about moving to an all OSX based lineup? I can see why the HDD i-pods wouldn't work with Nike+, but I'm not sure about the other flash based i-pods. Anyone want to venture a guess?
