Buying them wouldn't even be a blip with the amount of cash Apple has on hand.

Last.fm isn't just some small startup that Apple can just snatch up though, like most of their other purchases - they're owned by CBS.

CBS purchased Last.FM in 2007 for $280m.

Apple Inc. is the most exspensive thing on this planet besides the planet. With that logic they can buy anything they want; last fm, google, microsoft, spain, canada, the moon.

You cant buy the moon, silly. Where would you put it?

I'm still unsure of the new version, from an aesthetic point of view. I wish I could keep both temporarily but I don't think you can :(

I'm going to try out the new version in a VM before I let it go anywhere near my main library. The current version works great for me and I first want to make sure I'm not losing any functionality before switching. I'm especially concerned about a possible disappearance of different views and browsing options for your playlists, and what has happened to Coverflow* and the column browser.

The good news is that nothing requires Tunes 11 at this point, so you're free to stay with the current version for the time being if the new one turns out to be a dud.

* at least the original implementation of Coverflow still runs on Mountain Lion and will hopefully continue to work with iTunes 11.

Off topic, but it's too bad CBS hasn't done anything special with Last.fm. I see Facebook and Spotify teaming up and making the idea of "scrobbling" more accessible. Last.fm should have been doing that years ago.

I really hope the 'Album/Year' sort option (or equivalent) can be made a default, I hate the way that I've got to keep clicking on it, even if I go to the store and back to my music, I've got to click it again. Most of the bands I follow, I know the chronological order of their releases and thats my preferred sort...

I hate when they say a date and they don't respect it, the problem isn't waiting but it's keep what you say.

I didn't expect it from Apple.

I know the information is out there somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. When was the thanksgiving vacation supposed to end for Apple employees?

Now all we have to wait is either a maximum of 4 days, or just lose hope all together that iTunes 11 is coming this year, which will seriously make me doubt Apple for any decision from now on.

Good point, I had forgotten about that :(

I'm not sure the changes will be revolutionary, but it would be nice to see what they've got cooking all this time. I believe they will have to release it this month, they've already delayed it one month, it would really look bad if they didn't make the date they themselves set a second time!

hopefully it comes out today?! i heard rumors the release date is the 26th! ;)

just like the rumors that it would come out on every single day for the past 2 months? word of advice, don't believe in rumors anymore when it comes to iTunes 11... trust me, I believed most of them until it became redundant and tiresome.

This never changes for me unless I change it. I have kept it on this format since it was available on 3 machines and it does not change back on it's own. You must have a problem with your system or machine.

I've seen no mention on the Apple website if the Home Sharing funtionality is still there in iTunes 11. It would make sense (from an Apple pov) to get rid of it, especially now all of your content purchased through iTunes is available in the cloud.

I hope not, it's one of the main reasons I use Apple TV, but I could see it disappearing if not now, then in the future.

There is no way they will get rid of Home Sharing. It's one of the main reasons people have Apple TVs. There is no good reason I can see coming from them getting rid of it. Plus 98.5% of all my content is not purchased through the iTunes store and cannot be accesed through iCloud so this would really have an impact on me and I assume others as well.

It would have a huge impact on me too, I have my entire DVD collection handbraked to iTunes. It's by no means something I want to happen, but I think it will.

It will most likely be an Apple decision driven by the Studios, it would essentially lock down iTunes video content and close the outlet to play illegally acquired video content through iTunes. Going off topic, maybe this is one of the issues the studios have with licensing content for the up coming Apple TV set?

I won't be upgrading iTunes 11 until I know for sure Home Sharing is working.

I hope home sharing doesn't go, It would make my Apple TV useless

As soon as I see that it has this and also keeps list view (only seen pics of this in the playlist view) I will upgrade

Not a fan of the new look, but as long as it keeps all the functionality of current version I will happily upgrade
