I want a job that gifts phones to their employees.

Out of curiosity, what jobs do you people have that they give you phones?

Sales representative, and well.. it's not a gift. The device belongs to company so you're giving it back if you decide to change job.

You're expected to be available and monitor e-mails all the time. You can't really rest in free time unless you turn it off. Nothing to envy.

On the topic - from what I've seen - Z10 seems really good and smooth, although I've had it in my hand for a brief time. Internet doesn't agree with me on that matter, I guess.

You can't go wrong with iPhone 5S and this is what I'd pick.

Good lord! Is it 2010?

Of course take the iPhone. I'm assuming by giving you a choice there is nothing the iPhone can't do work related, so all that is left is personal use.

I can't think of a single solitary reason to pick the BB in this scenario.

It's not exactly a gift. The phone is locked down and there are typically restrictions on what you can and cannot do with it.

Personally, I prefer not having a work phone. Who wants to be available to your employer at all hours?

Exactly. I work in oil and gas, and any given off day I could get a phone call and have to pick it up and address the issue (same with emails pertaining to me)

I am in their IT department and just started as a System Admin. Going to try and get them to move away from blackberry bes and move to active sync on exchange and utilize mobile iron more. They can support more phones just the Security person in charge doesn't trust anything Microsoft or not blackberry. Iphones supposedly barely got approved recently.

Thats why I am required to have a work phone. On call and I won't give up my personal phone.

At my work, we have both BlackBerrys and iPhones. I currently have a 4-year old BlackBerry. I expect to get a new phone soon as our carrier is scheduled to shut down its old CDMA network. My phone is on this old network. I expect that my new phone would be an iPhone as we are going to move to only one platform and that platform is iOS.

Take my word for it you don't want your work to supply you with a phone. All that means is if they call you better answer 24/7. It also means if you get an email you'd better respond even on Saturday and Sunday. You will also have that same phone until it dies. Its not nearly as glamorous as it sounds.

What's worse. Having to get a company phone, or your boss having your personal number, and contacting you when you are not at work? We don't have company phones, but our boss gets our personal phone numbers, and I hate seeing anything from him after I leave work on my personal phone.

What color did you choose/end up with?

The slate color.

I agree. But when I am one of the 3 server admin at a large bank we have to be on call if something happens to the systems. Banks never close behind the doors to still supply our customers (you guys) your money. :)

I agree, I'm always on call and my boss has my phone number and I get paged. I'm on call 24x7.

Enjoy your new phone :)

That used to be me when I was a staff employee at a previous job. I hated it. I'm freelance now so I have no choice but to give them my personal number but I use Google Voice so everyone gets that. It was the smartest thing I've done since I went freelance. haha. But yeah, work phones usually come with the caveat that you will always be required to respond.

OP - you should get clear on when you are required to use it/be on call. Don't take it with you if you don't have to. That's why I'd suggest the Z10. You won't be putting any apps on that that you'll want to take with you and use.
