This is what you are looking for, at least the only thing that actually looks like it will be released in the near future: I like it a lot. I've found that I would much rather wear my mechanical rolex than any smartwatch, but if I could have it integrated into the band then I'd be all for it. I'm quite surprised no one else is jumping on this, it takes the decision away which watch to wear.

http://www.networkworld.com/article...-important-than-any-wearable-at-ces-2015.html

I saw this earlier as well and thought it a great way to merge smart functionality and mechanical timepieces. I hadn't seen the one you replied to but just realized it's from Kairos, same designers of what I consider the best looking and most useful implementation (well, at least smart watch design since they still aren't available) so far. Between the two, I like the the Kairos T Band as having the display on the very bottom makes it very susceptible to scratches and dings, as I've experience wearing my Microsoft Band that way.

I am taking it all with a grain of salt however since as you've pointed out, while the designs looking very promising, Kairos still has given firm release dates.

I wouldn't call it "leaked." Wasn't it officially revealed at CES?

Nope, it wasn't announced.

The watch was accidentally noticed by bloggers on the arm of an Audi booth guy. The bloggers cornered him and played with it on his wrist. Unknown if he got in trouble for showing it or not :)

Speculation is that it might get announced for real at the Mobile World Congress in early March. It's also possible that this particular style is an Audi exclusive.

Which is okay with me, as long as they announce a WebOS version of some sort!

That is a great point! I think the technology is great. I might wait for the wearable platform so to speak to evolve a little more. I don't wear a watch now. But as this technology evolves.......the geek in me get one at sometime!!!

I've been through multiple smartwatch phases, from ones with full apps and comms, down to now currently just using a Martian Notifier which only shows fairly simple notifications via Bluetooth.

In my case, I've never stopped wearing a watch, so having the clock part work off its own two year battery is critical for me. The several days' worth of notifications are icing on the cake, but very handy when I'm driving or otherwise have my hands full. I can glance at the watch and instantly decide if it's something worth more attention.

(I now only enable notifications for incoming calls and texts. I've stopped allowing them for emails, facebook, linkedin, Rain Alarm, and all that other junk that can wait, and which should not distract me while driving.)

I'll say this. It's been extraordinarily handy at times. For example, the other night I was laying in bed watching TV when the watch buzzed and I saw that my elderly mother was calling. My phone was in another room and I hadn't hear the ring. Another time I was leaving the house in a hurry and the watch buzzed to remind me that it had lost connection with my phone, so I was able to run back in and get it.

Cheers!

This would be a good fit for combining e-ink for displaying basic time/date and OLED for smart data with independent batteries so you continue to get basic info for months.

I don't get this point of view. I'm not saying it's wrong because of course it's your opinion which means it's right for you. But for me I found a smartwatch VERY convenient. To not have to take my phone out of my pocket is awesome to me. I suppose it depends if you drive a lot, work where your hands are always full, find it a pain to take a phablet out of your pocket when sitting down, are on the subway and don't want to drop your phone or get it jostled, etc etc. I don't know about you, but I get some type of notification on my phone very often, maybe 15 or 20 times an hour. If I had to pull my phone out of my pocket, turn on the power, swipe or fingerprint to unlock and address the notification I'd go nuts, well I already do since I don't have a smartwatch anymore.

I'd rather be honest and say I'm a slave to fashion and the reason I don't use a smartwatch is because I prefer my Rolex more, I'm just an old dinosaur and like that little V8 strapped to my wrist.

I don't get 20 notifications an hour.....I don't wear a watch now....... Nothing out there now makes me want to start wearing one now. Pretty easy to understand for me. :)

Well, it sounds like you don't understand the point of view of someone who does get 20+ notifications an hour. Don't mistake "I have no need of a smartwatch" for "no one needs a smartwatch", 2 very different things.

That Tband is freakin amazing, I'm first in line for it. I just hope they release a SS band, if that's even possible.

Dude don't know why you want to pick a fight with me. I don't wear watches and have no need for a watch.... Smart or otherwise. I said nothing like what you are making it out to be. Go back and read my posts. You get a lot of notifications good for you. I have said nothing negative or positive about it. Have fun with your smart watch. I have no need for one right now. Maybe in the future.

No no, I'm not picking a fight at all, just a friendly discussion. There is a lot of utility in smartwatches, they are not useless. I fully understand you have no use for them and it makes sense for how you use your phone, but that's not the case for many of us who do find great use out of them.

I really think the idea of having the band/clasp area being the sensor/display area only being considered by some of the analog watch companies is awesome.

I could still wear my Omega Seamaster and simply turn my wrist to see who is calling/texting, get health info, etc. Sort of like the Microsoft band except simply add a normal watchface to the other side of the display.

Not this..but sort of like this...

This is my personal preference after wearing a Pebble, 360, and a MS Band. The only one that's stayed on my wrist is the MS Band and that's because I wear the display on the inside. Nobody bothers me about it because they think it's a regular boring fitness band.

What Kairos is doing with the Tband is pretty thoughtful. Once you get a smartwatch, if it's not under the sleeve you get people asking you about it nonstop. It's the equivalent of wearing Google Glass on your forehead and people asking you 24/7, can I see it, can I try??? Some people like the attention. For others like me, having the display in a place that's low profile is the only way to do it.
