I've never been enrolled in the beta programme and now it's driving me daft telling me to install macOS Big Sur 11.2 Beta 11.2
As you can see below it seems I'm on version 11.0 (20A2411)
What happened to 11.1 ???

Any ideas please?

I've already got one :)
How will that unenroll me from something I'm not enrolled in?
Because you're not on the latest public release. When Big Sur was first released, people on the release candidate versions were offered a smaller update to get to the released versions. When the first betas for 11.1 were released, computers running the RC versions, even if not enrolled in the beta programs, were offered the 11.1 betas.

So I've got an installer with 11.1 on it and you're saying I should run that and install over the top of my 11.0 system?
And when I'm on 11.1 it'll unenroll me from the betas?
Would that give me the firmware upgrade that all M1's got that stopped them bricking themselves if they were erased?
I don't understand why it won't just offer me an 11.1 update.

Yes, this will update the firmware and get you to the release version of 11.1 without erasing the computer.

Well the matter has been taken out of my hands!
I was downloading the beta update and twice it got to about 3GB downloaded (of about 4.7GB) and at that point the download slowed from about 8MB/S right down to 26 bytes per second and the download failed.
The only thing connected was my magic mouse 2.
I was investigating this for the second time and the screen went dark and it shiut down.
After 3 obvious reboots, one of which took about 7 or 8 minutes it rebooted a final time and a progress bar appeared with 10 minutes remaining
It counted down to a minute and then the login screen appeared.
Went to about this mac and got this

So that's that then :)
I'm on 11.2 Beta :)
Very odd and I'm not sure what to think.
I'll just use it for a while and see what happens.

Everything works out in the end :)
One way or the other.
At least it's something to get my teeth in to!
Don't forget, if you don't want to be on the beta train forever to click the "Details" button in "Software Update" to opt out of further updates. Once 11.2 goes public!

Thanks.
I got that right at the first update then it disappeared. It hasn't appeared since :)
If you have trouble with 11.2 you will have to use the Apple Configurator 2 to restore to 11.1. This can be a lot of trouble getting the M1 Mac into DFU mode and you need a second Mac to run Configurator 2.

I started off well prepared!
I have a USB installer of 11.1 - just in case :)
But thanks anyway!

If it does not show that you are currently enrolled in the beta, you might not get further releases of 11.2 beta. However once 11.2 goes live it "should" show an upgrade from 11.2 beta to 11.2 release.

Good luck!

Do you see something like this when you run "About this Mac" and select System Update? Screen Shot 2020-12-21 at 4.29.23 PM.png

Yep that's the marker for me. If it lets me update to 11.2 and doesn't say I'm still in the beta programme I think it should be ok after that.

Only the first time I looked at updates.
I was doing other things and stopped the update from running but it seems it forced my hand and shutdown to install it anyway. The section under Software Update in your screenshot is now gone.
Maybe it was more interested in forcing the firmware upgrade. I'm sure it needed it but I just don't know.
