I now have a Quiet Mac Pro!

It has taken a week and a half to get a simple graphic card replacement on a brand new Mac Pro but I am pleased with the result.

My Mac Pro with 5770 is now nice and quiet - I couldn't hear it above the noise of a pc in the same office.

As originally delivered it was so noisy that you could have heard it in a jet testing lab (and have had engineers in ear-defenders asking you to keep the noise down!)

So lesson learned - if you have a Mac Pro with a noisy 5770 then it needs replacement, it is duff.

I still find it hard to believe that Apple, with the huge premium they charge, use cheap consumer cards that are not properly tested before leaving the factory. They should at least offer a low end Quadro like the 580 for those who want reliability and don't particularly need high power for 3D. It would be nice if you didn't have to ship the whole machine off for a simple graphic card replacement as well!

Moan over, I'm now happy.
