Can anyone else confirm this?

Not that it wouldn't be like Apple to surprise us, but the back to school explanation makes a great deal more sense, especially considering that they've probably got their hands full with Leopard and new iPods.

Or perhaps they are purging the yellow screens? :)

I'm prett sure this was an attempt at a joke :p

People are hesitating to buy their MBPs right before Leopard is released, but need an additional reason to wait. Add that the entire Mac community is *itching* for a MBP update, and you have a recipe for anxiety and speculation :D

Why is the community *itching* for a MacBook Pro update? THERE'S NOTHING TO UPDATE TOO! Seriously people, you can itch and scratch until you bleed, but there are no new chips to put in MacBook Pros. The 2.6-2.8 GHz Extreme Meroms are too hot, there are no new GPUs until at least November, and Penryn won't be out until February at best. There is simply nothing to upgrade the MBPs or iMacs too, therefore there will not be further updates of those products this year.

well ... I'd rather to buy my MBP with free iPod nano (school promo) than wait for Leopard. I don't see any upgrade for MBPs in near future, even after Leopard is released. Got your point though :D

by the way ... I called the apple store in Ardmore, PA. today, and they told me they might bring'em tomorrow after two weeks. we'll see

Didn't the last MBP just come out? They may be doing the iLife thing. May have something to do with the LED shortage. I don't see anything new coming any time soon. Especially not in the next few weeks. And no way would they be clearing stock for a new model coming in Oct-Nov or later.

The Future Of MBP Processors Is Revealed Today

Didn't the last MBP just come out? They may be doing the iLife thing. May have something to do with the LED shortage. I don't see anything new coming any time soon. Especially not in the next few weeks. And no way would they be clearing stock for a new model coming in Oct-Nov or later.
Two items in the news today.

New Intel 2.8 GHz Notebook Processor Out Now. 44 Watts. Is that too hot for the 17" MBP? $851 published tray price.

and

11 Penryn 45nm Notebook Processors Out This Winter '08

So either Apple can offer the 2.8 as a 17" upgrade for a premium upgrade price or we can wait for Apple to REPLACE all Merom Mobile Macs with new Penryn 45nm MBP & MBs this Winter or Spring '08 at the latest.

Intel will launch five Penryn processors for Santa Rosa Refresh supporting a FSB of 800MHz. Core frequencies will be

2.8GHz, 6MB L2 cache
2.6GHz, 6MB L2 cache
2.5GHz, 6MB L2 cache
2.4GHz, 3MB L2 cache
2.1GHz, 3MB L2 cache

Intel will then launch three processors along with Montevina in the second quarter '08 with 35W power consumption, 1066MHz FSB, 6MB L2 cache and core frequencies of

3.06GHz, 6MB L2 cache
2.8GHz, 6MB L2 cache
2.53GHz, 6MB L2 cache

The other three 45nm processors will target the mid-range market and feature 25W power consumption, 1066MHz FSB, 3MB L2 cache and core frequencies of 2.53GHz, 2.4GHz and 2.13GHz, added the sources.
So by next Summer we'll have more than 6GHz of dual core power on the road. :D

I work part time for currys. Trust me, not only will they not know when new products are coming in, they also know next to nothing about mac's (atleast at my store anyway). I've had to pretty much fight to get one put on display (we've had about 6 macbook's sitting upstairs waiting for months).

Long story short, you may aswell get apple related future-product advice from your local pet store...
