Intel's quad-cores generally beat AMD's hexacores, except in a few very heavily multi-threaded apps.

The rig I built does a steady 35-40 fps in BF:BC2 at 1920x1080 on high settings in full 32 player servers online according to MSI AfterBurner.

You can't do that with any Mac 'save maybe a Mac Pro with a 5870 card in it at the cost of ~$2500 more.

Bollocks because I mistyped, that should be a 5.
*BUT* You are wrong, there actually was a Radeon 9850. It was agp:
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp...=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=e7001256e1a8e03c

Which is why i rolled my eyes . And no there is no such thing as a radeon 9850. AMD stopped at 9800XT. I see you googled it and saw the only one site that mentioned it, which was a wrong post.

And i have no idea why you said what you would do regarding buying stuff for a PC. I only mentioned the 2600K because it rapes amds 1100T/1090T and that people wanting absolute best performance choose intel. A 5GHz 2600K is twice as fast as the 1090T and also the 1100T is no match, stock or overclocked. Oh just cause the 1100T has 6 cores, it is still no match for a stock 2600K

Also, yes i love my 2 sandforce SSDs, i will never go back to mechanical drives.

Also bought a gaming laptop.

Pavilion

SnB Quad Core i7
6770 Radeon 1gb
6gb ram 750gb hd
15" 720p

$850 with 9-cell battery pre-tax. Ihad bought a similar one a few weeks ago, but returned it because the gpu was a 6570 not a 6750 like I first though. lo and behold this nearly identical one comes out with a 6770 as if they heard my cries of anguish.

So this laptop and my desktop are my Mac gaming solutions to go along with my Mac. We'll see if I keep them both. I like the idea of the laptop so I can move around the house with it. Not going to be taking it out of the house much.

I do game on my early 2009 Imac as well. 9400M runs SC2 on low settings decently in OSX. I used to play BF2 on there on low settings as well mostly because of smooth frame rates. Although a nice side effect was it was easier to see make out enemies on low settings. Like to make the game run smoother shadows are taken out which means the enemy is easier to spot.

Of course do a little App store gaming as well. Angry Birds/Braid.

Did you raid the drives or seperate? I'm thinking about two 64 gigs/raided for a boot drive/programs drive.

The last SSD I owned was an Intel x25 m, the 80gb. I had it in my old MBP 2ghz C2D. I'm seriously considering getting an ssd for my tower. I miss the snappiness. I bet Windows flies on an SSD drive.

I had the X25M-G2 160GB before i had these, these are almost twice as fast btw.

Wow. That would do a lot for loading time in games. I remember Adobe cs5 would load almost in 3-4 seconds flat. I like ssd's because I throw around large images with ease.

Well no SSD this month, had to agree with the wife and spring for an iPad 2. :D

I'm getting ready to build a rig, and since it will be only for gaming I will be going SSD. Mac for everyday use. Awesome custom PC for gaming. :)

Now if newegg will get a few parts in stock.

Win 7 is insane on an SSD. It boots in just a few seconds. I played WoW for a while on one, and while it obviously doesn't improve framerates (which were insane anyway), textures loaded instantly on login no matter where I was, it made playing much more enjoyable. SSD is definitely the way to go.

I fully admit that I contribute nothing substantial to this discussion, so bear with me.

Hardcore PC gamers baffle me. I ask this in all sincerity - how is spending $2,000 on a gaming rig (for example), better than spending less than a grand on a console and HDTV?

Actually it does improve FPS slightly for some games

I thought that way too till I started looking at games on PC in ultra settings @ 1080p.. PC has started to really move forward from 360 level graphics. Effortlessly near doubling the 1080 resolution of the xbox, with more particle effects, better lighting and colors, the PC is just better most cases these days.

This is a bad page to cite, because the PC screenies are not as high as they could be with a monster graphics card. But if you look, there is a substantial difference.

With that said, Black Ops really isn't the best for comparison. How about Crysis 2 PS3 versus PC:

I'd rather play that game on PC. It not only looks better, but can load and obviously be smoother on a PC. If you have a 23" monitor or larger, and the video card to pump this game out at higher than 1080p resolutions, then you are in for a treat.

I play it in 1080p on my PC right now and it is beautiful. I can get very high settings on my 900$ gaming rig. I couldn't imagine how cool it would look on a 30" monitor with a cutting edge card.

Probably because you get a fully functional PC thrown in there as well, so even though its primary use maybe for gaming, if you ever need Word, Excel, a heavy duty storage facility, house streamer, programming dev kit (which is what I use mine for), triple boot, image editing, upgradable path, tinker machine, college course experiment, full functional browser, a full blown OS, your gaming rig will probably be able to handle all these things with ease.

While I agree that $2000 (~1400 euro) is a bit much for my taste, I don't ever discount the idea of it.

And consoles also have their own drawbacks.

Well you don't have to spend that much. Read my OP. $450 will get you a nice gaming machine with much better than 360 graphics and double as your pc.
