New Mac Mini is out. Is (almost) everyone happy now?

At least they have Finally updated the darn thing! :)

So, here's what it can do

- Up to 6-Core. 4-core as minimal configuration.
- Up to 64GB of Ram that you can upgrade yourself if you buy the base 8GB model. Not soldered to the Logicboard by Apple!
- 2TB SSD
- 4 Thunderbolt ports and 10Gb Ethernet

However. USD 799 is quite a steep starting price considering in the past they would start between 500 - 650

Just get the i7 and forget about the i3. Even if it's a quadcore i3. Has the makings of a little monster though I must say and using the TB3 ports to drive an external beefier video card you could have even more power.

Definitely curious what the price of hex-core i7 and 256 GB SSD is. I was hoping to see both these things at $1,099, as well as dGPU which didn't happen (eGPU is doable, but drives the cost up by several hundred).
 
Yes, I am. Exactly what i expected, with no unpleasant surprises, and two pleasant surprises.

First, desktop CPU. That thing is gonna be a little more power hungry, and also will heat up much more. That's why am I gonna wait a little, to see how thermals hold up. Second, user upgradeable RAM. Nice thing, so unlike 2018 Apple.

I remember the G4 Cube could be upgraded from 100MB to 1GB ethernet....
But will space gray be the only option?

anyone got a snapshot of the rear to post quickly?

i am stunned at the specs.

64gb ram possibily? is there even a ram bar with 32gigs? this is me assuming that there are two slots. are there?

You don’t think that by the time you click all the boxes that you’ll be up there price wise with an entry level pro ?

No, they can't possibly please everyone :p

I'm probably the only one here disappointed that the base model no longer uses a 2.5" hard drive, and my guess is there's no longer a slot in it for a 2.5" drive. I've owned a few different Mac Minis, including the 2014 base model. First thing I always do is install my own 2.5" SSD, and in the 2012 version I keep the original hard drive and install a 2.5" SSD for a dual drive setup which is the most ideal. And I don't really care for having the fastest PCIe SSD's, which makes no difference compared to a 2.5" SATA3 drive in normal use.

If it turns out there is a slot for a 2.5" drive, then yes I'll be happy.

I was also hoping for and preferring a mobile quadcore (i5-8259u), which has better performance and better iGPU (iris plus 655 with 128 eDRAM):

They'd better have a big slow fan in there otherwise it'll be very noisy...
