New Mac Mini Specs (hypothetical)

My dream set up for the new (high end) mac mini.

Price: $800
Processor: Dual 2.4 ghz
RAM: 2 gb and upgradeable
Hard drive: 160 gb
VRAM: Nvidia with 256 mb (like macbooks)


If anybody wants to post their own ideal setups, or argue with mine, feel free :cool:.
 
well I'd hope they support 3.5" HDD's thus:

2.4GHz Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR3
NVIDIA 9400M
320GB HDD (3.5")
1x DP, 1x DVI
Firewire 800

What I'd love lots is some sort of 16GB SSD for apps / os + a WD greenpower HDD for general storage, would make an ace home server :)
 
I don't think you guys are far off, we'd need atleast 320 gigs maybe 1 gig upgradable ram to 6 or 8(doubt well see this) nvidia chipset. Core 2 and dual display...

I won't buy one but the sound nice
 
You should probably just be "happy" with:

Price: $599
Processor: C2D 2.0GHz
RAM: 2GB (max)
Hard drive: 120GB

Because it's looking less and less like they will ever update it. 521 days and counting...
 
Yeah, that's why it's my "Dream" setup =(. At best they need to at least update the graphics to Nvidia, everything else I can handle being a bit low, but seriously, the days of cheap integrated graphics ended a LONG time ago..
 
why would you think it'd suddenly get a quad when its never been a powerhouse machine.

latest C2D like the macbooks, maybe two skus - 2.0 and 2.4 (with custom options for more money)

2GB standard with 4GB upgrade option

160GB HDD in the low end, 250GB in the high end, both upgradeable to 320GB (still all 2.5" 5400rpm drives)

finally wireless 'n', gigabit ethernet

9400M.

Basically a macbook in a box.

twin optical drive bays, twin HDD bays all sound like user upgradable options, easy access chassis etc. Not 'mini' anymore and isn't what Apple have done before with the mini (or the imac for that matter), so I still expect them to stick with single drives and still make it difficult for user upgrades.



I'll be happy to have the faster ram of the new macbooks, and the general speed increase with better cache etc. if developers of plex/boxee manage to use snow leopard to get access to the GPU for decoding then all the better.

Looks like thicker version of AEBS/Time Capsule with black Apple logo. Same thickness as current Mini except no power brick. Firewire status unknown. Smallest packaging ever, runs on the energy of a single Kit Kat finger etc. etc.

I'm about as realistic as most of you guys.
 
I think it will/should be:

- Dual core 2.4GHz processor
- 4GB RAM (um...2? really? WTF?!) :D
- 160 or 250GB HD
- NVIDIA graphics (no idea which)
- 1 FireWire 800
- Mini DVI/Mini DisplayPort

EDIT: Don't care about the price. I just would like to have a tiny little mini that I can carry around.

+1, plus USB 2.0 of course, but perhaps that was just assumed above.

I would opt for a quad core, preferably i7. Dual core CPU's are yesterday's technology and are just not considered high end anymore. There is still a big enough difference between i7 and i7 Xeon to differentiate between the Mac Pros and the iMac/Mini. It doesn't have to be an i7 quad. Even a Core2 quad would work quite nicely but I would still prefer i7.

I hope there is a big enough speed bump for the new Mini. Many users do not want an all-in-one iMac and don't consider the iMac a viable choice. So if the new model is lacking it will be a huge disappointment to many. I am still running my trusty dual 2.7 G5 but when it isn't supported anymore or dies I want to use my Cinema display with a minimalist, small foot print computer. My PowerMac chassis is very nice but it's huge.

Yup, a quad would be my choice to add to the all the great suggestions already made.

Considering every Mac has a dual-core CPU, I'd say dual core is today's technology. I know technology moves fast, but come on.

Probably a lower processor speed - not to compete with the iMac. Unless the iMac gets updated.

And no way 2GB! Not before the mac pro!!!
