I own a mp 1,1 I've upgraded along the way. I do 3d professionally but this is my home hobbyist and sometime freelance machine.

The wierd silver lining I see with this lack of an update is that I am able to take just about all the components (except ram) out of my 1,1 and put them into this 2012 machine. I'm already running 2x 5770's to drive two large dual-link dvi monitors and multiple sata2 HDD's. So I could pretty much buy the stock hex or stock 12-core instead of spending the usual $5K on a new machine. Ofcourse I would buy ram and a ssd from owc which closes that gap.

The gpu is the concern, considering pcie 3.0 cards work in 2.0 ports. Is apple expecting ppl to throw pc gfx cards in with the Lion and ML drivers? I'm sad we're still at OpenGL 3.2 and not 4 in ML.

Am I only going to get 3yrs out of this machine instead of the 5 I aim for? Is this machine the preverbal G5-quad before the intel release... In which case all the components will be shiny and expensive.

Missing raid!!!!

Apple is killing the pro there was a time they abondoned the pro before and it became a real problem. Apple will be known as expensive and slow running a tablet OS, here we go again.

I would say yes, you will probably get 3 years before this machine is ridiculously out of date.

I totally agree that the Pro is EOL. They will introduce something new in 2013, but it will likely be an xMac in a smaller form factor (small mid tower with beautiful design) and aimed at the mid/high end desktop market rather than the workstation market.
