Try out the test on your PC and see if it comes in under 4 minutes (approx the time Laslo Panaflex got on his Mac Pro, with 1GB RAM - 2GB would be a good deal faster). If the PC is faster, then you'd probably be better to wait.

6 minutes 40 seconds

P4 2.8 ghz, hyperthread
2 gigs 400mhz RAM
WinXp Pro
CS2
SATA as scratch 1 (dedicated)
SATA as scratch 2 (dedicated)
IDE as windows/photoshop install drive

lol... now I don't know what to do.

Use the wife's MacBook and run the apps under XP ...

:p

As we have said, XP is a viable option if you must shave seconds. And this machine should be quite a bit faster than the MacBook -- all depends on how well Adobe's XP products handle 4 processors.

CS2 bounces in the dock for a while, but once it opens its blazing fast™

(im on a dual 1.83, 1.5 GB RAM MBP. The new MacPro is much faster than that.)

Are you serious? How much real Photoshop work do you do?

I use Photoshop a LOT. I do design work for my dad's screenprinting business with some pretty large files. Plus, I do a lot of digital photo post processing with 8MP photos upwards of 300ppi or more. On my 2GHz MacBook Pro with 2GB of RAM, Photoshop lags horribly when processing my actions in my photo work. For the design stuff, not as bad, but still far from a very smooth and overall appealing experience.
