New MacBook Air M1 16GB 1TB SSD compared to 2016 15” MBP

I may be wrong but I think once you go for the 16GB and 512 SSD, the config also becomes 8 cores.

It's all good. I ended up with the 7C 8GR + 1TB HD because the wife can't get the size of her photos library small enough not to concern me about her using all or most of the internal storage on a 512HD. And I'd rather not have her faff about with an external. Things you do for love...

I am also getting a 16gb Air, but with 512 SSD. This will be my first Mac! I sold my Hp Spectre earlier this week. I almost didn’t buy it because my iPad Pro w/ Magic Keyboard basically serves all of my computer needs, but for work I need an actual desktop OS, plus I’ve always been very curious about using Mac OS. I am very excited to try these new M1 Macs!

I'm getting scores similar to yours on my 512GB SSD... i.e. write speeds of 2400.

Many other folks have posted high benchmarks around 2900.

Are you still getting these speeds?

When I did those initial tests I think spotlight may still have been indexing. I am now getting speeds over 3000
