Bought an 11" Ultimate a week or so ago and it has the SM128C.

Currently thinking of going for a 13" refurb (see my other thread) so this adds a complication to my decision, though presume that the faster processor makes up for any change in HDD speed

Out of interest, how do the 128GB and 256GB drives compare in speed?

Just bought the ultimate 13" 3 days ago and just today finished loading everything. Read this article, go and check only to see Toshiba. While the extra speed wont make or break anything, it is still very frustrating. I can see down the road when I try and sell this laptop getting the question, "Is the SSD Samsung?". Can't help but feel like the value of my brand new laptop just went down other then the typical used. While I could take it back and get a new one it's not really worth it to reload everything.

Can't really blame Apple for this though, they are just switching vendors and getting an additional speed boost as a bonus. Just sucks not to have the latest and greatest when you just bought something from their retail store! :)

It won't make a difference mate. Less than 1% of Apple users read forums like this and will know anything about it. Most people won't care about it either. The only place where it may be important is in high school where I can picture conversations like this:
"Dude, you got the MBA with the slower ssd? That's like so yesterday totally
."

Or however kids talk these days. The differences won't make any significant or noticeable difference in typical, everyday use. Apple does not chase specs for a reason. I can tell you that in typical usage most people won't tell the difference between a very fast SSD and an average SSD. The differences are too small to be perceptible by an average user.

Well, for those stuck with the older SSD, what can they do?

If you buy from a reseller you are most likely going to get an older model.

+1. I bought from MacMall 2 days ago and got the old model.

No offense meant - but that totally blows my mind. The MBA is any way shape or form today is NOT a heavy gaming platform, and a faster SSD won't do you much good... its the CPU/GPU combination being nowhere near capable enough.

+10000. You aren't going to see any improvement in FPS.

I just bought a second MBA 13" two weeks ago from my CDW rep. This one has the Samsung SSD in it. Can't tell any difference in speed.

I got lucky, I ordered a refurb 13" air a couple weeks ago and it came with the samsung SSD and also only had 1 or 2 battery cycles!

Got BTO MBA 13.3 4GB 128GB right on Jan 1st 2011. It came directly from China to my home on Jan 5th 2011.

Got the Samsung SM128C drive.

I didn't say heavy gaming, but say I was going interstate for the weekend instead of bringing my whole gaming kit. I'll bring my MBA just to play a bit of COD on the lowest graphics quality for an hour or two. I find the MBA perfect for that.

I have the TS128 as well. My question is why does console show a different result then what the test post on AJA. I did a thread on this but  no answers. So to the experts, what up with that?
