Update:

Feel pretty foolish...in my case, I put framer's tape on the bottom of my computer because I kept getting scratched by the sharp aluminum edges. Turns out, some of the vents are along the bottom, and the computer was unable to suck up air from the bottom vents. Hopefully, the problem is 99% solved. Even given that snafu, I DO think these machines need out-gassing for some time before there is no detectable odor. My husband works with hundreds of them every year, and some smell more than others. A lot of potential variables. I read elsewhere that sometimes the wires do get fried for some reason. Especially if under warranty, there's no reason not to have it checked out. In any case, if something is actually making you ill, regardless of anyone else's opinion or whether they can smell it or not, something should be done. Don't know the ultimate answer to that one, but it seems important to rely on your own experience and how it affects your life.

By the way, my computer is an iMac- just to explain about the bottom vents.

I
I recently purchased a brand new MacBook Pro 15' Retina from the Apple store two days ago. I noticed that right out of the box after unwrapping it, the MacBook releases a very strong chemical/toxic odor. I thought the smell may just be due to the adhesive of the plastic wrapping that it was in but I figured that would have dissipated by now. The smell is still very present and overwhelming. Should I be concerned or have other people experienced this chemical odor coming from their new MacBooks?
HAVE A MacBook Air THAT makes a very weird smell somethings

My MacBook Pro had a strong chemical smell when I first got it. If I left the top open it seemed to be weaker. However if I close it and reopen it several hours later the smell is very strong again. So I leave it open most of the time. I've had the computer for 15 months and am getting headaches almost every day now and am concerned it may be from the horrible chemical smell. I'm going to take it back and see if something can be done.

Hey, any updates on this? I got my Macbook Pro M3 in January this year and also had a very strong chemical smell, also got headaches after a while. My temporary solution was to keep it closed at home and only use it via my external display. Even after almost 10 months the smell does not seem to get any weaker.
