If you buy from an Apple Store, always always open your laptop and give the screen a looksie before leaving. Apple has free wireless, and all MBPs come pre-charged, so it's a simple five minute check to ensure you won't be coming back and playing the "i know it's not four pixels but please-please-please..." game.

I bought a Macbook for my wife a few months ago, checked it on a couch just outside the store: dead pixel. Took it in, got a new one, checked it, all set.

Just today walked in and picked up a new Santa Rosa MBP, checked it on the same couch, and what do you know: a big fat smeary thing (damage to the screen). Took it back in, got a new one, checked it, and good to go.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! Rubbing it never works, it will only cause further stuck/dead pixels. Also, if you have only one stuck/dead pixel, Apple is not obliged to do anything about it.

Please please please please do not "rub" the dead pixel to fix it. you will only regret this later.

well... if rubbing it happens to create 3 more dead pixels, then you're back in business ;).

Yo OP. Everytime I buy a notebook from apple here is the deal.

You can bring it back the next day and swap it if its defective. I have done it twice at 2 different apple stores. There is no charge. If you feel uneasy about swapping for a pixel, tell them there is something else wrong with it. Trust me they won't hassle you. Good luck.

Why lie? That cost all of us ultimately.:(

Call them, as I did on my MBP and I got a new one instantly no question asked! Didn't even ask me how many dead-pixels I got. (I got 2 though). They were extremely nice!
