I think I'm about 99% sure I've given up on the mini. It is such a shame too. It was a nice machine when it came out a decade ago.
So, the first thing I think is "unpossible, it can't be 10 years ago". I check MacRumors, and no, 2005 is not quite a decade ago. Darn. That was a joke, and I checked for accuracy.

Sure feels like it, though. An update, any update would be nice. I agree, if I want a new computer now, the mini just isn't worth it.

I'm pretty drunk right now (its 3:10 AM in Holland) and still it isn't funny . Anyway, mac mini will be updated soon, 'caus sales are down pretty badly. And along the iMac might come, 'caus else the mac mini might shoot Apple in the iMac toe...

ohhhhh geeezzzzzzz

A new Mac mini would be nice. I bought a refurbished one this week since they did not annouce the new one.

I hope it does not look like the one in that picture, because boy was that ugly.

So, all this article really says is the new Mini might look a little like a photoshoped closed Alu MacBook, apple might say something about it or another product, and they might make this announcement in the coming month.

Tell me something I didn't know.

Here's hoping we see a new Mac Mini in the next couple of weeks.

Perhaps the “huge” announcement is a new headless Mac? Or perhaps it is a Mac Mini with configurable options such as a new version of Apple TV, Time Machine and AirPort Extreme all in one small package? :p

Or perhaps this is just another fabricated Apple rumor... Time will tell...

I would pay top dollar for a Mac Mini/TV :)

sounds like yet more bs mini rumors to me. Besides the fact that that little shoddy ps mockup has been floating round for months, I HIGHLY doubt an Apple rep would just disclose that sort of info to a software developer so freely.

I'm as eager for a new mini to be released as anyone (and it had better have a dvd drive or it'll be a no-go for me), but yet again this is a bit of an unsubstantial rumor as ever!

An event in two weeks with no news from apple yet? seems unlikely!

I understand all the doubts about this rumor, but it looks quite sensible to me. (That's not to say that it's reliable, though.)

The tip goes like this. Apple is planning on updating the Mac Mini very soon, and that update won’t be it’s death. In fact, it’s most likely ready as you read this, and could have been announced at Macworld. But instead of announcing it here, Apple held back, seemingly in an effort to prove that they don’t need Macworld. The announcement could come as soon as two weeks.
AppleInsider claimed that the 17" MBP and new Mac mini would be coming this month, but not necessarily at MWSF. So a late January release of the Mac mini is reasonable.

Apparently, Apple also has a “huge” announcement that will make the Mac Mini news pale in comparison to the other half of this rumor. ... in true Apple style, completely a secret.
Huge as in 28" iMac? :D

I suppose a quad-core iMac would be significant, but that doesn't say "huge" to me. More significant is the long-rumored 5.5"/7"/9" mini-tablet that is, from the latest rumor, supposed to be released this fall. That device, as well as maybe a beta of OS 3.0, may be announced but not released.

But that's a long shot.

He has had Apple reps slip information to him before, but not this freely.
Easier to slip when we don't even know what this announcement will be.

Macbook Wheel lol, imagine how stupid the Onion would look if they actually made that and it was somehow amazing lol

The second is in true Apple style, completely a secret. But it’s gigantic

Excciiitting!!

As an HT/audio geek my hope is that the new product is a new 'Mac HT,' an N wireless, easily-1080p-outputting, hybrid between a mac mini and AppleTV, that is HDMI 1.3b-compliant (including outputting lossless audio), has an eSATA port, and gigabit. It will come with a bluetooth keyboard that has an integrated trackpad. No Blu-ray drive, as Steve wants to wrestle hi-def from the clutches of Sony. It will have Safari, as well as all the capability to install 3rd-party software.

At the same time, Apple will unveil 1080p downloads with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA sound, lossless music downloads, and an upgrade to Front Row more in keeping with the abilities of Plex/OSXBMC, complete with customizable skins (which can be bought at the apple store).

One can hope, can't one?:D

Hopefully a given

I guess the main reason I included that sentence was to distinguish it more drastically from Apple TV, which requires hacking for those capabilities.

But, yeah, should be a given.

OTOH, the ability to dl h.264 1080p movies and lossless sound is probably something that would make the MPAA very worried, and it's quite possible that they would include the browser but withhold 3rd-party software installation capabilities, so as to decrease the likelihood of illegal activities...

And what exactly would be Apple's incentive for flipping a bird at Macworld?

I call shenanigans. Move along please.

I thought the exact same thing. And, who wouldn't???

Apple, according to this article, said to itself, "I can MAKE MONEY VIA HUGE PUBLICITY or SNUB MACWORLD AND PROVE THEY AREN'T 'ALL THAT'"...

And so Apple snubbed MacWorld just to prove they are gooder than.

-_-;

Utterly retarded. I suspect they do have a Mac Mini, since development rumors have been rampant for almost a year, but it probably won;t be released until a couple months from now. If they were releasing it on January 15th, they would have said something at Macworld while all the cameras were waiting and people had credit cards out for the purchase.

Wasn't there a rumor a while back to the order of a new AppleTV, but being a REAL TV with the current AppleTV built into it with of course upgrades and such. And also wasn't there talk of a 3-D device that Apple had put in patents for? My guess is this will be a full on TV with an AppleTV device built into it with a 3-D mode, glasses and such.

and of course the Mac Mini :)
