I am getting very disgusted at the lack of apps using the native player on the Apple TV. All the other app players are horrendous. Apple should force this.
Native player on tvOS? I must admit to missing this completely, I wonder why it is't used, maybe lack of drm, or services wanting to use their player to (as much as possible) provide the same experience on all platforms vs presenting a unified experience with other services on the same platform.... No skip that this is no longer a mystery it is to give the same experience across platforms and allso to slightly screw competitors over

Diminish the HBO brand by aligning it with non-HBO content

No but I just assumed it’s technically the same streaming service just with a different color scheme?

Actually, now I wonder what happens if you subscribe to Max directly, will you loose access to being able to access HBO Max internationally (e. g. traveling) while previous HBO Max subscribers will still have access? Would be a big down grade for new users if you travel a lot
Nopes probably not because your account still belongs in a region that has the new MAX service, Discovery iis not as stuoid as to allow themselves to antagonize paying subscribers who just happen to be traveling to another region that has not had the new service rolled out yet.

Who runs these companies?

This is the best they can do?

This is how they should have handled this idea.

Throwing away the HBO brand for the streaming service that is heavily HBO content is a strange choice. In the US at least that is a household name that even teens recognize. "Max" just sounds like some generic app that no one will immediately associate with any of the media on the platform. I'm sure a multibillion dollar corporation has the data to back up the change, but I don't see the point.

So instead of getting full additional content from other channels like HGTV, you get 'favorites' from other channels. Whose favorites? My favorites, or your favorites? Hard pass.

iPhone 14 Pro Max, downloaded Max app from App Store

!) Did not auto update from HBO Max app so downloaded from App Store

2) Saw prompt stating profiles, watch history and My List have a new home. When I select Start Streaming. get An error occurred! Something went wrong. Please try again. It locks my phone up and have to restart (tried 5 times so far). Not trying on my 3 ATV4K's or other devices until they figure it out. Free subscription through my provider. I won't pay 20 bucks a month or more for their content.

3) Will check through Spectrum to see if app updated through my TV provider.

Edit: Finally got my 3 ATV4K's and iPhone 14 PM to update. Process was convoluted and not the same on all devices. Scanning QR code worked best as Spectrum provides it to me.

Tried deleting the app and reinstalling on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, and am still getting the "An error occurred! Something went wrong, Please try again." error.. Funny, too, that there's an option to tap "OK" which also does nothing, just like this app. What a waste.. They even had pre-orders setup! You could tap and have the app on launch day! What a joke then to see it doesn't work for so many people. If they're not even going to test their own software for a v1 Release, what hope is there that anything else that could end up broken gets fixed.

So then the other way around: directly associating this mess with HBO would diminish the HBO brand.

what a joke. i would absolutely pay for reasonable costs/features but they just don't want to be reasonable.

i'll take my usenet and torrents.
What do you consider reasonable? Keep in mind that 4k, offline downloads, 4 or more simultaneous streams for $9.99 isn’t realistic.
