WB Max intent is to operate a subscription based service in the same manner as Netflix and Disney. No side provider deals with free access.
Well they must not have carried over especially if I just use my iPad HBO max app but suppose the change will catchup

1. I have cancelled Netflix because f them.
2. HBO Max included with my AT&T wireless/internet account.
3. Amazon Prime included with my Amazon Prime subscription.
4. Disney Plus the only one of those I'm really paying for at $10.99.
5. Add Hulu into the mix because I'm paying $14.99 for that, hopefully soon a discounted bundle with Disney.

6. YouTube Premium which I just cancelled because I'm not using it enough, though may return since YouTube is almost unusable without it.
You can get Disney Plus and Hulu (both without ads) for the bundled price of $19.99/mo vs your current $25.98/mo

But that option is not available through Apple I'm assuming?
It's on https://www.disneyplus.com. Is this not available through Apple?

It's actually a bundle of Disney+ and Hulu (both no ads) and ESPN+

I mean...it saves $5 a month but is very convoluted. Not as easy to manage or share with family members. Plus now its my Hulu login being used for Disney instead of my Disney login. And on top of it now I get to pay for ESPN which I don't want.

$19.99/mo for bundle through Disney.

$10.99/mo + $14.99/mo ($25.98/mo total) less Apple's 30% cut... Yeah, I can see why bundle price isn't available through Apple 🤣

Was hoping we wouldn’t have to mess with this until after the Succession finale. Great timing!🙄

Signed in with my ATT credentials on iphone, ipads x2, mac x2. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL
If you have HBO Max via ATT you may have success by just logging in under regular sign-in using ATT credentials. Not as "Provider" link. Worked for me.

Yep my HBO Max was working until hour ago then it wanted me to upgrade. I did and I was already logged in with my AT&T credentials from the open old app. It also asked if I wanted to make it work with my Apple TV app on my ipad and I said yes. Have not tried my Apple TV which I seldom use better pictures on my iPad and MacBook than my old 30 inch LG which does not do 4K anyway

Based on initial user reports, it looks like the Max app for Apple TV does not synchronize with the TV app's Up Next section
Those initial user reports are false. The Max app does synchronize with Apple’s TV app “Up Next” feature seamlessly, just like the old HBOMax app did.

You just need to give it permission to connect to the Apple TV app when you are prompted with the pop up. That typically happens the first time you actually try to use the app or watch a show.

The only way you'd pay more now than before with an all-in-one cable service is if you subscribe to multiple (more than 4 or 5) streaming services at the same time. Most people don't do that.

Key Takeaways

- 86% of people pay for more than one streaming service each month
- The average American spends $39 per month on streaming subscriptions

According to the survey findings, the average person subscribes to 2.8 streaming services — with nearly 10% paying for more than five streaming services at any given time.

There are clear generational divides when it comes to the number of streaming services the average person uses. Specifically, Baby Boomers statistically use the fewest streaming services while Millennials and Gen X are neck-and-neck when it comes to who uses the most.

Let's say you subscribe to the most expensive services and on a monthly (most expensive way vs annual) basis...

- Netflix premium 4K service at $19.99/mo
- HBO Max Ultimate service at $19.99/mo
- Amazon Prime at $14.99/mo
- Disney Plus (no ads) at $10.99/mo

That's 4 services for a total of $65.96/mo. But again, most people don't subscribe to that many services all at one time.

Add in broadband internet service for between $40 and $60 per month and you're still paying less than with an all-in-one cable tv and internet service. I looked into it almost 1.5 years ago and it was $122.05/mo for Spectrum cable TV and internet service under their 1 year promo price and $178/mo after promo. I'm sure it's more by now.

I pay $45/mo for 300Mbps fiber internet. I'd have to subscribe to 8 or more streaming services all at the same time with my fiber internet to end up paying what I would under Spectrum's regular $178/mo all in one cable tv and internet service.
Funny… i posted something like this about five years ago to a friend who worked in the industry.. at THAT time the question was “just how long do you think it will take till the american household consumer will REALIZE that in the end they are actually paying MORE for their streaming services, than their cable bundle ever cost?” Clearly both of us were off at least a couple years. MRR is favored so much by companies because the average consumer can’t possibly manage to keep track of it.

conversion didn’t do anything this morning on ipad with HBO MAX app, but by 12:00 PST, HBO MAX app forced an upgrade to MAX (stupid name, stupid logo, stupid color, stupid to throw out FIFTY YEARS of brand creation!)

but, once new MAX app downloaded, it opened and loaded with all credentials intact, all MY LIST features and current status of some watched items.. clearly the back end is the same, with just more added Discovery+ content.

This is from a comcast HBO bundled sub, that has it’s own authenticated UN/PW combo. Subscription seems to be JUST the standard AD FREE sub…so maybe no 4K after the six months promotional period ends.

Same result for me with my AT&T subscription that I got free with my phone account
