Awwwww that sucks, looks like I'm out of luck with that option then, I always thought that the 1 year warranty was always effective from the day you bought the product, is this true?

The one year warranty begins when the original purchaser buys the product brand new. Apple also provides a one year warranty on things they sell refurbished.

Hmmmmm, well that would be me then as the laptop wasn't previously owned by anyone else, I'm just wondering why the warranty status is showing up as being expired, is it just because it is quite an old laptop? Basically I would now like to by some Applecare off eBay but I wouldn't want to sped £60 on it to then try to apply it to my Macbook and then find out I can't because the warranty has expired

Ok well I rang Apple and they said that the warranty was effective from the day that PC World put it out on display so it is definitely out of the 1 year warranty and I can't purchase AppleCare for it...sigh, it's not THAT bad though as I am paying for monthly cover from PC World and that pretty much covers me against everything but theft and loss and i can have it repaired an unlimited amount of times, so I should be fine

HaHa the battery is actually the one thing that they won't replace, not unless it actually develops a fault anyway, if it just has problems holding a charge then they won't replace it as it's just classed as a consumable item

Uh that can't be good, I'm still getting about 2-3 hours out of my battery but the condition has now gone from "Good" to "Normal"

Edit: Oh never-mind, apparently that's just because I've upgraded to Snow Leopard and normal is just the same as Leopards "Good" rating

Ooooooo really, I didn't realise you could buy it off there, I just thought it was a type of insurance that was just applied to your Macbook, how does it work if you buy it from eBay then? do you get some sort of card with a code on it that you use to register the Apple care on the laptop?

University Students (UK) get AppleCare really cheap.

I didn't know that either, is that just an offer from Apple or would I have to ask my Uni about it? It's not like it matters anyway though as my warranty has already expired but it would be good to see what other deals I can get
