My brother in law has the Z, and ignoring the Mac/Windows argument it's a very powerful and very fast machine, especially if you get the dual SSD in raid config. The trackpad is a frikkin nightmare though. After using the apple one there's no way I could go back.

I thoroughly second your comment on the trackpad! I have a Dell Studio - while it does have a multi-touch trackpad, its has a mind of its own and I am never sure how much the page will scroll. To me it is many small things like this that make the Macs a much better deal than MS/Intel laptops. If people want to save money I would say buy a low end laptop from one of the other manufacturers - but if you are willing to pay the slightly higher price, Apple products are the way to go. I do not regret buying any of the Apple products I have = (many iPods, iPhones for everyone in the family, aTV, MacBook Pro etc)

Another thing I didn't care for with the Z (and most other high-end W7 laptops) is the sheer amount of crapware and shovelware that comes. I honestly think if Sony would offer this machine standard with a bone-stock W7 install and NO shovelware, they'd have a far-more compelling product. For the few W7 laptops I've bought, I've eventually done clean W7 installs to address this problem.

2 other items favor the Mac IMHO. One is the sleep/resume reliability. This has been dicey on every W7 machine I've owned. And the trackpad, of course. The Mac trackpads are simply far-superior to anything else out there.

Sony has a free Fresh Start options where all the crapware is taken out, same thing if you purchase it from their business channels. You still get the Sony drivers, power/battery options, and some crapware like their dock. I will say this I like how they give you the latest full version of Adobe Premier Elements and Photoshop Elements if you choose the crapware option.
