Does the new Outlook synch with Google calendar ? This was a show stopper for me a few years ago.

Does anyone else find the animation to raise and lower the inbox to hide/reveal the column names when you hover over it is very silly and actually annoying and distracting? Every time the message list moves, I think I have new mail.

Of all the things to send energy to animate!

OK, I now decided to test the "new Outlook" via the testbutton Outlook itself pests me with...

Got an error: Non of my Exchange-accounts would work. Luckily, I could switch back. Next year, when the admins are back, I think we will try to set up Outlook from the scratch on a nonproductive machine.

My recommendation for all people with Exchange accounts, in work-related environments: Avoid the new Outlook for Mac as long as you can!

My outlook (latest version) does not even show the "new outlook" slider. Am I missing something? MS support themselves can't even figure it out.

When I’ve had that happen, it usually re-appeared after quitting/restarting Outlook and/or reboot

The "New Outlook" button will not even appear if you already have any email accounts set up that are not Gmail or Outlook accounts. You can get the button to appear by removing all IMAP, POP, or Exchange accounts, then restart Outlook.

(Yes, I know there are certain exceptions and workarounds, but that's going too far in the weeds, in my opinion).

iCloud messages seem to update rather slowly after, say, a deletion on another device. Also, the highlight bar on the selected item in the message list is way too subtle.

Hi folks,

I thought that an all-encompassing thread for the upcoming "new" Outlook for Mac could be convenient. As it seems to come nearer:
https://www.macrumors.com/2020/12/15/microsoft-365-mac-apps-native-m1-support/

From within this article: "The updated Outlook for Mac app that's available today now includes support for iCloud accounts, allowing work and personal emails, contacts, and calendars in one app. This will be rolling out to Outlook for Mac users in the coming weeks."

I am rather anxious about that update because features that are very important to me seem to miss, quoting from here
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...-for-mac-6283be54-e74d-434e-babb-b70cefc77439

"Features not yet available in the new Outlook for Mac

There are several features that are available in the current version of Outlook for Mac for Office 365 that aren't yet available in the new Outlook experience.

  • Block sender
  • Contact lists
  • Delegates
  • Online archive
  • Resend message
  • S/MIME - Now available in Beta Channel version 16.43 (20100803)

Known issues

The product team knows about and is investigating the following issues in the new Outlook for Mac:

  • Calendar events opened from .ics files can't be saved into accounts
  • Mail and events can't be moved or copied between accounts
  • Shared calendars can't be added using Open Other User's Folder
  • Delegated and shared inboxes can't be added using Open Other User's Folder"

Very annoying for office surroundings where delegations are critical, and also to handle multiple accounts, contact lists and so on - it looks like that lots of Pro features are going to disappear!

I have refused to "test" the new Outlook so far and am willing to omit this "update" as long as these indispensable features are implemented.

And of course I am really interested in hands-on experiences with the "new" Outlook for Mac! Please post here.
I just installed OfM Beta Version 16.47 (21020100) to check out New Outlook. My Outlook/Exchange, iCloud and Gmail email accounts all appeared to have migrated correctly (my btinternet account didn’t migrate, but I expected that as it's shown as "not yet supported" - no idea why they're having to exclude certain ISPs).

However I then found that although my iCloud and Gmail contact lists appeared in New Outlook, my Outlook/Exchange contacts list did not appear. I had a brief online chat with Microsoft Support and they told me that this was a known issue and contacts/distribution lists were not yet supported in New Outlook.

I noted in the "Known Issues sheet" for the previous version 16.46 it states that in New Outlook "Mail, events, and contacts can't be moved or copied between accounts.", and doesn't refer to this being fixed in 16.47. However I don't think this the same as my issue, which is that my existing Outlook/Exchange contacts don't appear at all whereas my Contacts for iCloud and Gmail do. They're still present in "Old" Outlook for Mac, and they still reside on the outlook.office.com/people/ server (maybe they've linked to the outlook.live.com/people/ server instead, which isn't the right server for Exchange accounts). I've queried Microsoft on this as part of an ongoing support case.

I'm baffled as to how this roll-out is being managed - some of the expected tweaks look fairly promising (but hardly earth-shattering), but for a Mac-targeted email client to get to beta without the ability to set up IMAP accounts for major ISPs such as BTInternet and to be unable to display an existing account contacts list from its own servers is just crazy.

I don't have the New Outlook toggle, i'm on version 16.45 and only use my outlook.com account with it, any ideas why?

Do you get standard, Preview or Beta updates? Also what build do you have (the numbers in brackets after the Version number).

Thought I'd add the following because there have been quite a few posts asking the same question: The New Outlook toggle will only appear if you're using either the Preview or Beta version.
Updates are delivered via one of three "Channels" - Current Channel, Current Channel (Preview) and Current Channel (Beta). Current Channel is the default setting, Preview is intended to try out new features before general release and Beta is designed to identify issues during development.

Assuming at the moment you're using the default Current Channel, if you want to access the Preview or Beta versions then go to "Help>Check for Updates" in the menu bar. Once the check is complete, click on the "Advanced" option and select your preferred option from the drop-down list. Read the dialogue that comes up when you change tyhe channel. It's also advisable to uncheck the "Automatically download and install" box so you can check online for what changes have been made before you upgrade, especially if you choose Beta, unless you're really into living with glitches and providing constructive feedback. You will be able to revert to "Old" Outlook with the toggle switch.

I am not sure that is correct - I only have updates through the Current Channel and I have the 'New Outlook' Toggle.

This is no longer correct. The "New Outlook" was released to the Current channel several months ago.

Used to use Outlook exclusively for years. Had to migrate to Entourage because MS made me if I wanted to use a Mac. Then they stopped supporting Entourage. I refuse to rely on MS anymore unless it's absolutely necessary -- and it's not necessary in 2021 for most things.

Nobody is excluding certain IPSs. The new Outlook simply does not yet support IMAP, that's all.

Another issue, that has been an issue for years, that is not fixed is that you can't open attachments in .msg files, trying to open the attachment only opens the mail again (I have colleagues that work on windows computers and when they save mails it is in .msg format).

Annoying as hell.

My comments were relating to Preview and Beta Channel releases - I know Current Channel release from 16.42 only has support for specific non-IMAP accounts (Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud). In Beta Channel New Outlook rolled out some time ago, with email getting IMAP support in version 16.46 (21011805). I switched to New Outlook when 16.47 (21020100) was released on Beta Channel. As I posted elsewhere my Exchange, iCloud and Gmail accounts migrated perfectly; my btinternet IMAP account was flagged as not supported before I switched, and didn't migrate. The only major issue I encountered was that my Outlook/Exchange account Contacts list didn't migrate (whereas my iCloud and Gmail contacts did); Microsoft advise me this is a known issue. Beta 16.47 (21020300) just landed, not sure what'll have changed yet.

Quick update for info: I just installed 16.47 (21020300) and my btinternet account has migrated to New Outlook with no problems (but Outlook/Exchange contacts still missing).

I was referring to Preview and Beta Channel versions.

In the end, this is all pointless because MS has already announced they're killing all work on current versions of Outlook to focus on creating an all-new version based on the Outlook webmail version so that the apps are virtually identical on all platforms. This transition is supposed to happen in early 2022 (which probably means mid-to-late 2022).

I heard about the transition to the web versions but didn’t catch the part about stopping work on current versions until then and have seen functionality added since the announcement (like shared calendars)
