Here it comes

I called this morning and they told me that the order will be shipping today from California. I got upgraded to 2-day service. The processing sequences was already under way, but was able to be switched to the faster delivery.

I hope it's a new iMac would be very unfortunate if it was not at the new one was released on Thursday.

I'm hoping for tomorrow to, but the online apple store is 24 shipping and my local futureshop still has lots of stock of the old iMacs. It better be tomorrow or Thursday at the latest!

Further proof that there will be an imminent refresh, B&H ran out of another model today/recently, so of 13 configurations, 7 are unavailable. No custom 2TB or SSD options are available, i7 27" is not available, and the 3.6GHz Core i3 21.5" (BTO) isn't available. All models were in-stock a few months ago (before any refresh rumors).

MacMall is also showing most of the configurations out-of-stock when you search their site, but I don't believe they hold much in-stock of custom configurations.

How can you be sure? No news at all today and then the apple store still shipping iMacs within 24hours = me pessimistic :(
All this means is that there will be a lot of iMacs in the clearance store of Apple.com tomorrow! It's going to happen. Fact.

so if the refresh comes on tues the 3rd your machine comes on the 4th but it is an old one. will be really annoyed and do nothing or will you call them and fight for something.

I would call and start off with this:

Your order was placed on the 15th they took more then 20 days to deliver it and sent you an old one.

Web Order Status

Can you see what the specs are on your machine? I doubt it will show the new specs. Does it show "Prepared for Shipment"? I'm would rather them call me tomorrow and say that there are updated BTO options would you like to adjust your order or have us ship you the old iMac with the new clearance price? Can you provide us with a screen grab of your Web Order Status?

that is a good idea.. I know that it might work. his order has been hanging around for about 19 days I would think they could help him out with this.

Why are people always girding for a fight? Apple's policy allows OP to return for refund or exchange or keep the old one and get the difference in price cut and price paid (if there is a price cut). Apple customer service is usually top notch when people buy an old model days before the new one is announced. No fight required. It's not TJMaxx or some discounter. The only thing OP would be out is shipping, but that was his choice since he opted for the "faster" 2Day service.

They're not holding my order for 20 days so they can ship me an "old" one. That makes no sense.

Based on my conversation with the phone support reps today, I expect a "new" one (whatever configuration is at the same price point) will arrive in 2 business days. Nothing has yet changed with my order status on Apple.com (previous specs, showing "Not yet shipped"). And even if it's an "old" one, unless the screen size is smaller, I don't really care. It's plenty capable for what I need for work. Thunderbolt means nothing and my Adobe applications will run plenty well for my needs.

TB means nothing today, but I assume you will be keeping your iMac for more than the short term. Once upon a time iMacs were the only Macs that had USB.

What I meant is that there's nothing I'm doing that isn't handled just fine by USB2 and our existing network. TB is and will be irrelevant for my purposes at work. I'm not editing HD video or watching movies at work. I'll be editing photos (and not even the multi-GB panoramas I work on at home) and documents in the CS5 suite. A quad-core i5 with 4GB of RAM (pre-refresh specs) will suit me just fine. I'm sure the upgrade will be dandy, but for what this machine will be used for, it's just a higher spec for the sake of a higher spec. If I knew it would have been 20+ days and I had the option, I would have bought in store. But it's an enterprise purchase, so the buying is out of my hands.
