Did you install the updated mobilesubstrate too? WB needs the updated one to work...

Yes, I did both. Worked fine for me.

Thanks for the help everyone! Winterboard installed fine, but I don't see MobileSubstrate anywhere in my Cydia packages. Isn't it supposed to appear there as well?

Doesn't show up for me either, not in apps folder or Cydia. Must run in the background.

According to the command window when I unpacked it, it worked.

Cydia is a critical app. I would NEVER put it in a folder !

You could try deleting Winterboard from the apps folder via SSH, but, I have never tried that. Don't know all the implications, if any.

Lesson learned. I just installed Bosspfres via SSH but that doesn't load in safe mode either.

Does anybody know the command to uninstall a package manually? I'm googling ATM but not much luck.

I have SBsettings and assumed I can use that in any emergency. But I didn't realize that even that wouldn't work in safe mode.

This worked for me. After running this and restart, checked Cydia, new version installed !!

HOW TO INSTALL :
SSH into iPhone – using iPhoneTunnel if your on Windows , Cyberduck if your on MacOS. Read here how to use iPhoneTunnel

Copy . deb file into tmp folder

Quit Cydia if its running

Hit Ctrl+T in WinSCP and run the following command : dpkg -i /tmp/name.deb ( just to make sure : you replace name.deb with the actual name of the deb file ) On CyberDuck there is a "Send Command" window in "go" menu.

After installation, you can delete the .deb file

Thanks!!! Worked like a charm!

Seems to be working for most everybody but you. Sorry but you can always restore, re-JB/UL if worst comes to worst.

Ok guys, dumb question. I followed the instructions posted above, everything is unpacked, no how do I get this thing running? Themes? :)

When you restart, they should run as iphone boots up

Does it open when you tap the icon ?

Also, Go to Cydia/manage/packages and see if Winterboard lists the new version you just dropped in. If so, it's working.

This totally worked for me-THANKS!

I am so SERIOUSLY STOKED about this-I just got the 3GS today and already have my 3G sold for $175. *So life is good :)

MAKE SURE THE COMMAND IS EXACTLY CORRECT. Cut & Paste if need be, spaces are critical.

That's what I did last time. It said unpacking but then froze on "setting up winterboard." How long should that step take? Also, you just stick the deb file in any directory, right? Since you are deleting it afterwards.

If it matters im using WinSCP.

EDIT: oh, do i need the new mobilesubstrate first?

So you just place the new deb winterboard file into the temp folder along with the new mobile substrate....restart phone and presto?

Took about 3 seconds or less for each file.

I used cut and paste so I don't screw up command.

Don't forget to get Cydia out of Categories first !!

No you have to install them either using a terminal program on your mac/PC or type the commands directly from mobile terminal on the iPhone (assuming you have installed that).

Either way will work. Doing via SSH allows you to cut and paste the commands.

I suggest installing mobilesbstrate before winterboard since it is a core component for winterboard.

Did you reboot the phone after installation?

I'm having trouble with this. After unpacking the .deb file with terminal on the iphone (which I've put in the tmp directory via DiskAid).. i don't see the winterboard icon. So i respring (restart) the iphone. The winterboard icon shows up now.. however, I'm stuck in safe mode. What am I doing wrong?

That's a whole other course. There are some themes in Cydia, you can import them thru Cydia, then open Winterboard and tap them to a checkmark.

Sorry, too late tonight. I have to watch my Grandson early in the AM.

Yes, after I unpacked the .deb files, I deleted them from my temp directory. i then used SBsettings to reboot. After Reboot i searched for Winterboard, only option was to delete. so im assuming its there, but I have no icon and it did not start running after reboot. Did i miss something along the way?
