I don't ever recall seeing ads in Apple News App but in the last month or so I've noticed ads. And I don't mean ads in articles, those I expect, but rather in the main News App body, between headlines - see pic.

When did Apple start putting ads in here? One of the main reasons I always prefer Apple to others was that I've never been served ads. This is very disappointing.

EDIT: As of some time in May 2020, I no longer see ads in the main window of the News app. Apple must have realized how idiotic that was.

Not seeing that. Maybe it’s an intermittent thing. But currently neither my iPad Pro or my iPhone are showing any ads unless I go into an article or news source.

Here’s another one that popped up now in the News app:

What’s frustrating is the size of these ads - they take up half the app window on my XS.

So if this is a new direction from Apple, what’s next? Ads in Maps, Mail...?

If this is the new trend I’m out.

Still not seeing this. Only ads I see are within articles. Nothing bothersome yet.

I’m curious, for those not seeing any ads, are you guys New+ paid subscribers?

Not only this but many pay a premium to Apple to stay away from ads as google is king of ads. That premium to me is already monetizing the users.

But Apple wants to double dip. Let’s serve ads. Let’s do the same thing in Apple TV. Nevermind they paid nearly 200 for the hardware. We have subs to sell. Your paid in full content or experience isn’t our priority anymore.

Are you seeing ads then?

As always, we only ever get half arsed information on these forums. Are you guys with the ads in America?

And if you are running beta software, have you reported it? There is no way in hell I will put up with this load of bollocks from Apple if this is how they are going to go on.

U.S.A. with no subscription or beta.

I think this is starting to look like a US centric issue. You guys need to start raising it directly with Apple. In my opinion it’s wholly unacceptable to have ads in the news app regardless of whether we have a News plus subscription.

Here in the USA, got ads on OTA 13.1.3 (currently downloading 13.2). I don’t normally use the news app on a daily basis so I never really noticed the ads until today. They’re not intrusive to me compared to Flipboard, the app I used to use.

Okay, on 13.2 ota release (USA), I see no ads after playing around with the news app for five minutes or so.

Closed the news app and reopened. The ads seem like they’re here to stay. They’re not so bad when you think about it.

The ads are supposed to be there. This was talked about when the app first released.

Don’t want them, won’t accept them, won’t use the app. I don’t pay a premium for Apple kit to be bombarded with ****** ads. I’ve never had them, and I’ll never want them.

It may be too early to tell but since updating to iOS 13.2 earlier today, my News App is no longer displaying any ads. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if they start to show up at a later date; as mentioned in my original post, I never had them till a few weeks ago.

FWIW, I'm in Canada and have never used any iOS betas.

Edit: Well that was short lived; ads are back and with a vengeance. They’re huge and littered all over the app. Will no longer use Apple News. What a shame.

Register on MacRumors! This sidebar will go away, and you'll see fewer ads.
