Apple is shipping these CPUs because they have them. There's no need to ship anything more advanced for people to update their Mac apps. It's no different than the original Intel DTK which shipped with a Pentium 4.

The results demonstrate what we largely already knew- that the A12z runs faster than many Intel chips. I wouldn't say that the results aren't valid.
