In total there are 3,782 emojis in the Unicode Standard, as of September 2023. The most recent emoji release is Emoji 15.1, which added 118 new emojis.
It’s really too bad that we can’t use a string of emojis of our own choosing as our password. It would take hackers a lot of time to break those codes.

Just bring back the handgun already! 😫🔫 Just doesn't have the same effect.
It won’t happen. A big reason for that change was due to court cases where the fact the gun was used almost landed kids in prison. Shortly after Apple and I think Microsoft both changed it to water pistols.

Finally a tired face with baggy eyes -- I haven't felt this represented since they gave us the DadBod emoji!

I’m happy the emoji consortium is thriving. But when do we have enough emojis? I use to be able to select the ones I wanted with muscle memory but now it’s like searching a needle in a haystack.

When I need to rely on the search function, it’s no longer fun but a chore.

This will be my new favorite Emoji. It expresses my general opinion of people in person and on the internet.

We need more emojis with the staying power and utility of the egg plant and peach. Emojis people will actually use on the regular.

I know this is a straw man, but seriously, the damn Mail app is an ancient mess and getting more bugs by the day. Just out of principal, they should stop with the frivolous features and fix the OS before announcing anything.

Just Mail/Calendar/File Sharing/Media Conversion/Search/Preview/Bugs/Optimizing.

Please.

Apple adds new emoji to the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other devices regularly based on updates made to the emoji catalog by the Unicode Consortium, and the there are seven new emoji that we could see sometime in late 2024 or early 2025.

The next emoji characters being considered include face with bags under eyes, fingerprint, leafless tree, root vegetable, harp, shovel, and splatter.

The Unicode Consortium today opened the beta review period for Unicode 16, which includes the new emoji characters. The beta period lasts until July 2, and after that, Unicode 16 will see a release and the new characters will be officially approved.

It often takes smartphone makers like Apple several months to create artwork for new emoji characters that are approved, so it is likely we won't see these new emoji until after iOS 18 launches. Apple will likely add the new characters sometime around March 2025, around when iOS 18.4 comes out.

Apple last introduced new emoji with the iOS 17.4 update that was released in March 2024. Characters added in iOS 17.4 include lime, an edible brown mushroom, a phoenix, a broken chain, shaking head vertically (as in a "yes" nod), and shaking head horizontally (a "no" head shake).
