Looking forward for the release of this model for using as the second screen for my macbook, but I would prefer them to keep the Air line with M1 processor (which is more than capable for Air target audience) and so not to hike the prices. Otherwise if they gonna use the pricing of the current pro lineup, might buy the refurbished M1 11 or 13 inch ipad pro.

This rear camera design would make the iPad wobble all the time when placed on a desk. Can’t be true. Unless, well, … Apple. Hmmm.
Nah. The current iPads have camera bumps on them and they don’t wobble. The iPad is simply too big for the small protrusion to make any difference. I just tried my iPad Pro now, and it’s got a big square bump. Not a millimeter of movement on the table. The iPhone is a tiny thing in comparison, so it’ll wobble.

Honestly, the iPad Air should just be the iPad Pro 2018 with an updated chip.
  • Remove the LiDAR Scanner
  • Add pro-motion
  • Add FaceID
  • Use the iPad Pro bezels (not the thicker ones from the iPad Air)
I understand there was a need to separate the products in the past and make the iPad Pro more appealing relative to the Air but given they're going for a new design for the Pro, why not simply recycle the iPad Pro design.

This makes a whole lot of sense especially if the Pro goes OLED and how the base iPad is encroaching on the Air’s specs.

Unfortunately, I don’t think it will happen. Penny pinching Tim cares more about margins than he does about customer experience.

Or just keep the current iPad Pros in the lineup for $100 less.

yes, same idea! But I think the micro led displays are a bit expensive (they bumped the price when they launched), hence I'd actually be happy with the older LCD screen for even less.

I feel like the assignment for current design of the iPad and iPad Air is just "let's hit certain price points at certain margin level using the least bad design possible".

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

I wish Apple would give us an iPad WITHOUT a rear-facing camera (and thus lighter weight AND lower cost).

I'm genuinely curious if this is a feature that most customers actually use. I instead use my iPhone camera for photos, videos and scans, but maybe that's just me?

I’ve spoken with quite a few customers who apparently do use the rear camera. I’ve used it myself periodically.

A 12.9 Air would be a good addition. I have a 12.9 Pro only for the large screen that I use as a second monitor for my Mac. I don't need a Pro for any other reason and a less expensive alternative if and when I replace mine would be my choice.
Same.

The only question will be.... will there be a new Magic Keyboard... the current version is something like 3 or 4 years old now...

and its very expensive. For an Air maybe using the current gen Magic Keyboard would be better for target audience.
Hmmmm, what about a new Magic Keyboard that contains a landscape camera, or camera add on.

all I know is that I went from the 2017 12.9l to the M1 11” and I still regret it. The Air would be fine except I’m using more space than they have available (600gb? It’s a photo and file backup). I have the M1 with the TB, so have the extra RAM. I didn’t want to upgrade for a longgggg while.

And my Mini. Gave that to my Daughter…. so a new mini and a 12.9” is what is needed here. I need a do over of the last purchase.

I use my ipad rear camera a fair bit. Scanning documents, as a makeshift visualiser, even taking the occasional photo or video. I don’t mind paying for an ipad which has the same cameras as the latest pro iPhones.
