If we see another iPhone in the next few months year what new features would you like it to include? I'd like to see a better battery and ability (native to the OS) to store files on the HD with bluetooth.

Apple traditionally updates the iPhone line up during the June-July timeframe each year.

I doubt this will change for quite a while.

So far apple has not released an update to their iPhone in the fall or winter. To that end, and given that the iPhone is only 6 months old, it will be unlikely to see any update until 06/2010

I am hoping for some updates other then faster/more memory, like an OLED screen, better background executions, say for pandora. You can listen to ipod music in the background but not pandora. If you jailbreak it, there's an app to allow this, so it is technically possible.

an update the UI to better manage applications given the high volume of apps available.

In Safari, it will include bookmarks to this site with threads about next years iPhone.

Wow. What an original thread. There hasn't been any thread created speculating what the next iPhone will have in store.

I hope the new iPhone has a pop up to remind people to use SEARCH

I expect that the 3G will be eliminated, a 64 GB 3GS will be added, and not much else will change. The new pricing will be as follows:

3GS 16 GB $99 (or $149)
3GS 32 GB $199
3GS 64 GB $299

I expect it to come with retractable wheels so it can be ridden as a skateboard fitting in with Apple's going green theme. I think it will also have the latest quad core processor and I heard nvidia is making a new mini video card so you can play retail computer games at 45fps! As I have also said on every one of these "next iPhone" posts I expect it will teleport you to any other iPhone any where in the world.... I can't wait!!!

I think there's going to be a design change.. Possibly a bigger screen.. Maybe the screen will reach to the top of the phone.. With the speaker behind the screen. Then they will cut off the home button at the bottom and make the entire screen a button just like the blackberry storm except all it will be used for is what the current home button is for.. They will also add 2 side buttons that u can customize to your liking... They also will make the iPhone casing exchangable or the iPhone will come in all the colors like the iPod nano...

The next version will be out next summer, one year as usual from previous upgrade. I think it's going to include:

1. LED light notices for text and email.
2. OS will have more customization options for users.
3. Full Flash ability.
4. Different profile abilities instead of just the two now.
5. Faster processor and more HD.
6. MAYBE, MAYBE...video streaming phone calls.

I don't think the casing will change in terms of design.

Don't forget about the ability to organize/create/modify playlists in itunes

OLED 4'3" screen? I do not think Apple is going to increase the screen size. Afterall, it still must fit in the pocket.

Personally, I would rather see a significant OS X improvements such as true multitasking and file system rather than another hardware update. However, for multitasking not to be a system hog, dual core processor will be needed for sure!

^ lol? At least when they make up specs like a larger screen, they should at least make sure the screen isn't larger than the dimensions of the phone itself.

double post, yea i know, i suck... too lazy to just edit the last one.

few things we will DEFINITELY see (obviously dont know more than the next person, but I would bet money on it):
∙ higher resolution (good bet, cuz theres a TON of new smartphones and mediaphones coming out with 480x800 res screens... enV touch ret. $99 on verizon has 2 480x800 screens)
∙ speedbump (faster cpu/gpu/more ram possible)
∙ OS 4.0 (few new features, we will know more about em few months before the launch)

It isn't larger.

Diagonal dimension of a screen = 4.3" = 10.922 cm
Screen height = 11 cm, screen width = 5 cm => screen diagonal = 12.08 cm
iPhone height = 11.55 cm, iPhone width = 6.21 cm

I bet the next phone will probably have a larger screen. Anyone take a recent look of the soon to be released HTC Leo aka HTC HD2?? That thing is practically a tablet!! I'm willing to bet Apple will make the screens bigger...

What i'd like to see but some of it is doubtful because of Apple/Jobs' stupid obsessions...

-Visual refresh of the OS. HTC's Sense w/Android and the Pre's interface look amazing and make the iPhone's seem a bit dated.

-Photo phonebook/photos in messages app. Seems like common sense what with the big screen and all. The pre now shows a picture next to incoming text notifications - would be awesome.

-Notification light(s). I want this *so* bad. It's annoying having to constantly turn on the screen to know if I have something. The Blackberry Bold/upcoming Onyx always tempt me.

-*much* stronger vibratation and/or profile support. Half the time I don't even feel it when I'm walking to class.

-better all-around notification system. The pop-ups aren't the best thing in the world and can be annoying when in another app, which brings me too...

-BACKGROUND APPS. Or at the very least make an API to allow music streaming apps to hook into the ipod app so I can be listening to slacker/pandora and idk ANSWER A TEXT MESSAGE without it killing my music.

  • Improved camera
  • Removal of all 3g cellular restrictions that are not technically motivated at least outside of the US, also in the built-in YouTube app
  • Enabling at least music programs like Spotify to run in the background
  • Flash support in Safari (with an option to disable this)
  • File sharing between applications
  • Removal of the 2GB limit for application data
  • More user-friendly SDK that can execute on other platforms and uses a more intuitive language than Objective-C
  • Faster app approval process more like the one that Android uses
  • More home screens and/or alternative ways of organizing a large amount of apps
  • 3g cellular on/off through status bar and display of summary of upload/download
