My thoughts on the Extremely long life of the current mac mini

1) apple is waiting for the new intel x4500 gma graphics to come out before upgrading the mac mini

2) apple wants to sell out all their current mac minis and will introduce a new mac mini replacement that is similar to a desktop pc in the way it can easily be upgraded and will use desktop core 2 processors instead of mobile core 2 processors

i hope its numro 2, cause that is where the money is.

Thats my thoughts, What about you??????????? :) :) :) :)

1 - Could be. I would make sense anyway.

2 - I think only the memory will be upgradable (if it is already not). Besides that, nothing.

I think that it will have a new design that fits with the Apple TV and iMac (so black bits and all). Otherwise, I actually do not think much about it. iMac are the best. :)

1: Yes, makes a lot of sense.

2: Dubious in the extreme as it would likely eat into iMac and Mac Pro sales.

To be honest, specs wise we could expect something similar to the current macbooks, if we're very lucky it'll be the montava chipset. but to be honest i doubt it.

i know its very unlikely to happen but it would bring more windows users to mac than the mini could do

Perhaps, but then it wouldn't really be a Mac. If it's "easily upgradeable" (beyond memory) then people run into the problem of using hardware that's not entirely compatible. The reason Macs work is because they support a very limited hardware set and apple knows what that hardware set is. Windows' problem is that it's got to support 8 million different products. Obviously that has its advantages, but it also has its disadvantages. So a mini with lots of upgradeability would defeat the purpose.

Far better if they made a mini and a "supermini" that had faster chip and graphics.

Mac mini's are great little computers for hooking up to tvs and turning into mini media centers.

I couldn't see apple creating an easily upgradeable tower because it would cannibalize the sales of Mac Pros and to some extent imacs.

i know i know

I really don't see the logic in not having a mini tower. I feel apple will meet that demand soon enough. (well... I hope :))

So do i, either apple is working on one or steve jobs pride is stoping apple from furthering their share in the market

I don't know. IMO they should discontinue the Mini - I mean, there's basically no demand for it. :(

the mini is kinda a dud. the only thing it is good for is new pc converters which would prob upgrade past it to an imac within a year

Bring the Cube back!
Thats what i mean!
apple will replace the mini with a cube like apple desktop
thats start specs are similar to the current mini but can be upgraded to beyond the imac( of course costing more than the imac)
upgradable at least with ram, hard-drive and graphics cards :D

lololol

No demand? How come when they hit the refurb store they're gone within an hour or so?

easy
mac minis are, as you would call sh*t boxes
they are usually bought to try mac os x before you buy seriously or as media centers
and when you want to try before you buy, you want to pay the absolute least you can.
so pretty much the when they are available cheaper people jump at the chance to buy them.
more so than the macbook pros for gods sake
also this is why the referb store also has tones of macbook pros and imacs, cause people that cough up the dough for one of these better machines, they are buying for the long run and therefore want to start with a new machine.

this is my thoughts?????

I just want 802.11n in the Mac Minis. They can keep the rest the same, for all I care. It's more than powerful enough for most people's needs.

I happen to use my mini (PPC) as my main machine. I don't do alot of intensive work, but I'd like an upgrade to the mini.

I would like an iMac, but I prefer not to have an integrated monitor. Also, I do not like the glossy screen. The MacPro is just too much computer for me, in both size and price for what I do.

I love you!!!

yeah the integrated screen is what makes and breaks the imac
also i could live off a mini, but i would have to give up my hobby of 3d art in maya.
good machine, but most of the mac users i know had a mini for a few months before jumping over to a imac or macbook pro.

no offense meant
they are just rarely used as a main machine ;):apple:;)

I use a Mini as my main machine.

I have no desire to have an all-in-one computer like the iMac and I do not consider the Mac Pro to be worth the cost for daily computing. I could use my Macbook at home with my monitor, KB, mouse, etc..., but I want to have a computer there all the time and not have to pull out the laptop to use at home unless I'm roaming around.

I think the Mini is a great computer for normal daily use. Apple would be stupid to discontinue the model unless they replace it with another mini tower style unit that uses separate monitor/kb/mouse. Not everybody can afford a Mac Pro and those of us who already have the peripherals don't want to be forced to use something else and scrap what we have (imac intended target there).

omg i know
mac pro is only worth the big bucks if you actually use the power it offers
and i doubt you could sleep comfortably knowing you spent 4 grand for a machine that surfs the web and watches videos.
with 8 cores you could surf 8 different sites at the same time without having the computer slow down on you
the imac is what i think of when i hear mac
it is apples trademark so to say.
no one in there right mind would buy a mac pro if a imac or mac mini could do the same job just as well lolololol
