I have a silver 8gb nano that I've been wearing for a while. People always ask what it is. I use it as an encrypted drive for important work info and for music and a pedometer when I run.

I was very disappointed with yesterday's announcement so I went and bought a 16gb graphite nano from Apple's refurb store for $119 to gain some storage space and also because I really liked the form factor and am disappointed to see it go. I'll pass on the 8gb to the kid. I expect that the watchbands will majorly go on sale soon. I thought they had a good concept and would try to mature it. Maybe they looked around and saw that companies were sprouting up to design a watch that integrated well with a smartphone and maybe they will purchase the technology and absorb someone else when the time is right and it has matured? Don't know.

I have several expensive watches and I always go back to the nano on a daily basis. Something about wearing an encrypted drive on my wrist that appeals to me.

I'm headed over to Best Buy to see if they have any more 6th Gens in stock. I love mine...and now that the form factor is changing, I want some "back-ups."

The online inventory tool says there are none in stock though :(

I usually go for craigslist or local 'Used Markets' here in Korea for some iPod Nanos. They are at around 70 dollars for 8GB, and I'm guessing that will plummet even further once the iPod Nano 7th gens are out.
Hope you can get some great deals :D

Just bought two silver 6th gens from Target...and ordered a refurb Graphite from Apple.com. Best Buy told me over the phone that they sent the 6th gens back...Not sure I believe them. I was going to stop in later.

I think Apple messed this one up. I wear the Nano as a watch when traveling, cutting the grass, exersizing, ect. It's easier to change the time zones and more convenient to use as an iPod than a phone. I can also leave it on my wrist when going through security. A big plus is I don't run my phone's battery down. Noise canceling headphones work great when flying/doing yard work. I just wipe the silicon band down with a disinfecting wipe when finished. I have an iPad that I'll watch videos on.

I love the last generation of Nano, thought I was the only one after reading so many complaints after they moved to the small square (ie no video, no click wheel, etc). I keep one on my badge lanyard for work.

I gave some thought to ordering a new one, but sorta just let it slide. I have more iPods than I use at this point.

BTW, still in love with my Classic. It is one of the few purchases that I have no complaints about. Because I can carry all my audible audiobooks with me, I never have to prune and download books.

Maybe I should have elaborated more. I'm hoping Apple updates the iPod Nano with Bluetooth capabilities to pair with my iPhone. If I receive a call I don't have to pull my phone out to see if I'm going to answer or not. It shows up on my watch. I can receive notifications/reminders on the iPod Nano as a watch, etc.

I currently don't own a watch because all it does is tell time. My iPhone already fulfills that function. For me, a watch that has a lot more functions, as I just mentioned, would be worth purchasing and wearing.

BTW, I never said I wanted a nice watch. The word "nice" was not mentioned in my original post. IJS

EXACTLY. The whole "raison d'être" for the 5th gen Nano was to use it like a watch. That's the main reason people were buying it, and it was catching on BIG TIME. What the heck was Apple thinking? If they would have made some improvements in that form factor it would have been a cult hit that took off like the Apple TV. The coolest yet least expensive watch ever, but with a bunch of features. Like the iPhone was for the phone, the 5th gen Nano could have been for watches.

Add Bluetooth, a screen saver mood (just for decoration - tap it and it's back to a watch), and other things to make it more watch friendly. They DROPPED the ball!

There are so many smart watch options out there or in development that do exactly what many people in this thread want the iPod Nano to do.

But I wanted it as a watch to grow with the Apple eco system in mind.

I use the 6th Gen Nano for running, etc. Always wanted to use it as a watch, but it was a bit big for me - though I agree with the general opinion here....it would have been awesome to see Apple improve upon the existing design, and possibly even tweak it to make it more watch-friendly. As Dick Tracy cheesy as it sounds, I personally think there's a demand out there for better, smarter watches. Can't tell you how many tasks I've missed because my iCal is blasting an alert on my iPhone and laptop screen, both of which are in a different room than I am at that exact moment. For the time being, I'm keeping my eyes on the Pebble (http://getpebble.com/)

Since the new Nano and iPod Touch are not out until October, is Apple retail store still carrying the current generation Nanos?
