I was very lucky that when I received my phone it was in a promo LG box and came with a free LG Quick View case worth £45

Image

Ohhhh

the guy at the three shop was telling me if you get the white LG G2, you get a free case with it, but the black one doesn't come with a case.....? Does this make sense?

Is that case good btw? Im not really a fan of flip cases

Very handy to get notifications through the window. Its also a very high quality case.

Here are many users complaining about the 5s battery life:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1644553/
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1665107/

I googled for specs on charging times, but I didn't find anything so I don't know if there is an official spec for charging times for either phone. I've never noticed my G2 taking longer to charge in particular over any other phone I've owned, but I've never timed it versus a 5s. It's never an issue though because you need to charge your iphone during the day, 2-3 times a day according to you, in contrast I can do almost anything on mine and NOT have to charge it at all, not 2-3 times, not even once. So the time your 5s spends on the charger is time that I'm actually using mine, which means I get MUCH more time on my G2.

I still think the size of the battery is a silly argument. Yes you are right from the technical specifications, but who cares? Your phone still lasts x hours, my phone still lasts x hours. You talk on your phone for 10 hours, then have to fully charge it again, then talk another 10 hours, then fully charge it again, then 3.5 hours, then almost half charge it. I talk on my phone 23.5 hours without charging it until the end.

EDIT: Just found charging time for the G2 is 2.6 hours: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7251/lg-g2-and-msm8974-snapdragon-800-a-quick-look/3
Does anyone have a link to ip5s charging times?

----------

I think this is a pretty typical scenario for iphone users, it was EXACTLY my scenario when I used to use an iphone 5 as well.

----------

Really? Lol.... :p

Who talks on the phone for hours and hours and hours? Most people use their phones for apps and music and texting and web-browsing. But if the apps are not optimized, the software is not efficient, doing all those stuff will technically drain the battery much more quickly. Also the point about charging my iphone 5 2-3 times a day is to demonstrate how much time I spend on my phone. I can go through 2-3 charges with the G2 too but again since the battery is much bigger hence it takes longer to charge hence it's the one that actually sits on the charger more. Dont twist my words

Actually I talk on the phone for hours a day, yeah I know crazy stuff, using a phone to make phone calls.

I'm not twisting your words, that's why I quote you. You said you charge your iPhone 2-3 times per day. I use my phone for hours of calls AND I run Waze gps for hours per day, I also stream music at lunchtime at the gym, and do some web browsing and a lot of texting. Guess what, I don't charge my phone a single t ime during the day, I don't even bother carrying around a charger for my car or work anymore. I leave for work at 7am, and get home at 9pm. It takes 2.6 hours to charge, not that it's a valid point for the way I use my phone because I don't have to charge it. I don't know how long the iPhone takes to charge, but even if its only half that then you just spend 2.6 to 3.9 hours wasted during the day charging your phone when I spent zero.

In the end the iPhone seems to be better suited to your use, nothing wrong with that. For my needs I can't stop and charge my phone 2-3 times per day. I'm always on the go and can't even stop and charge it once, that's really one of the main reasons I gave up my iPhone.

Maybe last week, I would have said Nexus 5. But affer watching Phonebuff briefly compare the speeds of every generation Nexus phone and The Verge review on YouTube, maybe not anymore. Camera and battery are still pretty bad even if they considered improvements over the predecessor.

The real time speed of Nexus 5 is fairly negligible to me compared to the Nexus 4. Opening up a site is like a 1 second difference. Any KitKat features will be found on the Nexus 4 eventually. Like upgrading from Nexus One to Nexus S. Very small improvements. And I find the Nexus 5 to be the ugliest Nexus smartphone ever. Yes, even worse than the plasticky Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus from Samsung. Such a boring and uninspiring design. Check out Phonebuff's Nexus Evolution video on YouTube. Nexus One and Nexus 4 take the cake for most stylish. And the Samsung Nexus phones look sleeker than the Nexus 5. Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 look very close in design from the front.

I think stock Android and timely updates is more hype. And boring too just like the Nexus 5's bland design. There isnt major differences from any version of Jelly Bean to KitKat, and you would lose alot of exclusive OEM features for vanilla Android with a ton of Google bloatware added on Nexus phones just the same. We wait for these updates within 18 months that are pretty barebones themselves.

The LG G2 doesnt look any better than the Nexus 5. Not a fan of glossy plastic and the back button can be a love or hate thing. But G2 has advantages like longer battery life, better camera, IR blaster, and arguably a better display. Important features and advantages to many. If money was no object, I'd choose G2. But both LG phones will be worthless after a few months. LG does have terrible resell value compared to Samsung. Who really buys LG and their 6% marketshare?

I've followed Android news and Nexus phones since the beginning. But let's not kid ourselves and be fooled by that attractive price point. Nexus 5 is really an inferior cousin to the G2 but disguised as a Google flagship for a midlevel unsubsidized price. If the G2 had a Google Play edition priced at $349-$399 and has all the same hardware advantages like better screen, battery life, and camera, I'd say most would pick G2 over a Nexus 5.

I would choose a Galaxy Note 3 over both if I never had the One. Better build quality, design, and many exclusive and refined Samsung hardware and software features than either LG phones. And being the most popular vendor, better resell value too. And I dont even like Samsung! Don't like TouchWiz, their cheating benchmarks, and smear campaign over HTC. But Note 3 is just a better overall device, plain and simple.

What about the HTC One? Do you recommend it? What's the battery life like?
What's putting me off the HTC One is that it is kinda old now...and I am going to be having this phone for 2 years....
What's HTC One's resale like

I guess I'm about to be the newest G2 owner. Goodbye Nexus 5, hello G2. I wanted a bigger screen, somewhere between the N5 and N3...looks like G2 meets my requirements.

Solid post, but with no real hands on experience I would take it as exactly that. As someone who transitioned to the n5 from the n4 I can say it has been a big inmorovement. The biggest change? BATTERY LIFE. I am yet to not get through an entire day. With the n4 I had to charge the phone mid day everyday.

I talk on my phone regularly. Ending the day with 4+ hours of talk time is not out of the norm for me. Believe it or not, there are people that actually use their phone as a phone...

Today I'm fighting the G2 vs S4 battle. One of them will be my new phone by days end. I keep hearing about how awful the software is on the G2 but I'm wondering if that can be overcome. The only real stock sofware I use is the messaging app. Everything else is apps.

Do you really base a phone you're buying on the potential resale value later on down the road? The same thing could have been said about HTC before they launched the One this year. All Androids have low resell values compared the Apple products.

The G2 software isn't awful at all, I don't really hear that much on these forums. If anything I see a lot of people praising it. I see much more hating on Touchwiz though. I'd say overall the G2 is MUCH nicer than the S4 in most ways, except the achilles heel of the rear placed buttons and crappy speaker.

but you recommend the g2?

No, not necessarily. It is an awesome phone, incredible screen, insane battery life. But in the end I sold mine, I grew to hate the rear mounted buttons, the speaker was crappy, and I had some issues which I suspect may have been bad hardware like a wonky proximity sensor.

I suppose it all depends on how you will use your phone.

I'm vote for NEXUS 5, because i'm using nexus 5 ;)
actually i'm using both of iphone.

from iphone experience, simple and update support is most important, i think with nexus (directly support by google) you will get better OS.

Since this got resurrected I will give my take...Nexus 5 all the way. Why?
Well first, the Nexus 5 runs pure android. This experience paired with the Nexus 5 gives you a clean, smooth experience where I have experience no lag or problems. The G2 runs a pretty ugly and heavy skin that even on the great hardware, is not as smooth as pure android. The battery on my Nexus 5 lasts all day, I have no complaints. Not to mention, the Nexus 5 has a much better design compared to the G2, which is the slimy cousin of the Samsung Galaxies.

Using the Nexus 5 for a few months, no doubt it is the best phone on the market. I would give it a slight edge over the G2, but they are both great phones.

I think your misunderstanding him. He has an iPhone AND a G2. With his usage he has to charge BOTH phones 2-3 times a day, but since the iPhone charges faster, to him its the better trade off because overall it will spend leas time on the charger when compare to his G2.

Well, just saw how old this thread is, I guess it doesn't matter now.

Yeah, owning both of them I did understand where he was going. I just didn't believe he had to charge the G2 2-3 times a day, that wouldn't make sense seeing it's insane battery life. I do agree that it might even out due to the iphones VERY fast charging time, yeah I've been impressed with how quick it charges up, so YMMV depending if you are close to an outlet or not.

Anyhoo I sold the G2 a Looooonggg time ago and kept my 5s if that tells you anything.
