I look forward to this NOT being available on Verizon again. One of the first Android phones (outside of the One) that piques my interest again.

Good eye. Very interesting.

I am indifferent to removable backs. If it's removable or not, doesn't matter to me. I'd have to assume it's not removable, though. Prototype maybe got ding-ed up?

----------

The slot at the top of the device, a lot of people are predicting IR blaster.

Yeah, I don't expect a removable back and actually prefer that it's not. My guess is the top cutout is merely for easier access to the internals for FCC inspection (and also why the back panel isn't seated all the way).

It is a slow that allows the FCC to easily see the contents of the device, nothing else. That is also why the back isn't flush.

----------

To me, the device looks rather thin. That's cool and all, but it means less room for a big battery.

The camera is also weird. Such a tiny aperture it looks like.

And I do not like how the bottom bezel is bigger than the top. This just means that hat landscape typing will be off centered even more than it normally is :-(

Are you sure the bottom is wider? Seems pretty even to me.

I think the camera looks a little weird, too, but as you said, this is an FCC version.

The FCC filing does say the battery is relatively small by today's standard. I am hoping this means they're optimizing the software to be more efficient, ala the Moto X.

A lot more photos here showing internals: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...ext-nexus-phone-under-listing-for-verizon-g2/

Comments point to an optics stabilizer.

And someone pointed there doesn't seem to be any indication of speakers.

I don't see any comments pointing to an optical stabilizer.

 Bone conducted speakers

EDIT: Would make it tough to hear it ringing though if you weren't holding it.....

The phone pictured has a temporary back so the FCC can go through the internals. If it is a temporary back, they may not have made a cutout for the speaker.

As for the earpiece, maybe that part is bone conducted.

Lol I was somewhat kidding....though it would be interesting for the earpiece.

Well they do have it in Google Glass so who knows.

True. I hadn't thought of that.....

Would be interesting to note if it would offer any real benefit vs a traditional earpiece.

Obviously, they were somewhat forced to use such tech for Google Glass - but would there be benefits to using it in a regular smartphone?

Thought provoking :)

This is what went through the FCC? If so, I dig it. Wish the battery was bigger, but I hope this means KitKat is really optimized.

I also really hope the back does turn out to be just like the Nexus 7. It's a great material. I wouldn't even put a skin or case on it.

I think if all this stuff becomes true, the final two questions will be storage options and price. Based on this year's Nexus 7, I'm really hoping to see:

16GB base, 32GB upgrade. And I'm hoping $329 / $379, respectively (just like the N7 went from $199 to $239. The Nexus 4's base price last year was $299).

You know... I've actually lost interest on this phone.

Maybe it's because I still don't see a huge hardware and software improvement over last year's phones (I own the SGS3).

At first I was planning on getting the new Nexus but after seeing the poor camera, battery and such of the Nexus 4 I've lost most of my interest.

Now I'm more focused on Android 4.4 for my Nexus 10. I don't see myself changing phones for quite a while.

How exactly do we know this is the camera that the Nexus 5 will get?

This is what went through the FCC? If so, I dig it. Wish the battery was bigger, but I hope this means KitKat is really optimized.

I saw a thread on here a couple days ago looking at the G2 battery life and just doing simply multiplication to get an idea as to what the Nexus 5 battery life could be.

Also, don't expect KitKat to have major battery optimizations. Google has released multiple phones in the past with even smaller batteries. If history has shown us anything, it is that battery life often isn't a point of major concern for Nexus smartphones. If there is any optimization for battery life, expect it to be at the component level (energy efficient Snapdragon 800, GRAM, etc.) and not the OS level.

I think if all this stuff becomes true, the final two questions will be storage options and price. Based on this year's Nexus 7, I'm really hoping to see:

Wouldn't be too surprised by those prices. But I think Google will try pretty hard to hit the same Nexus 4 price points. Also, I'm not convinced that we will get a 32GB Nexus 5. Nothing is pointing to that, and all it really does is add a little extra cost to the device. With Google trying to keep cost down, let's not get our hopes up.

If the Nexus 7 didn't change from 8/16 GB options from last year to 16/32 GB options this year, I wouldn't be as hopeful. But because they did, I'm hoping they'll do the same for this year's Nexus. It would be a damn shame if Google didn't. A damn damn shame.

Google also introduced a 32GB Nexus 7 last year but never did that with the Nexus 4.

New render:

http://www.androidauthority.com/new-lg-nexus-fan-render-268556/

I really like the back material. If it's just like the N7, it'll mean nearly no fingerprints, and will feel smooth but still give a good grip.

Love this. I'm getting this phone regardless, but I'm hoping it looks just like this. Unlike others I like the camera. I'm out of contract and don't intend on reupping anytime soon, so the Nexus is the way to go for me (assuming it has LTE, which I can't imagine they'd be stupid enough to bring it without).

I'm a big fan of this too....

Because I'm planning on using an early upgrade to buy a 5C in addition to the 5S at full upgrade pricing, I'm hoping the Nexus 5 can help me holdout until 2015 on a new Android phone.....

With these specs and design, looks like it'll do VERY nicely.

And as always, price point will be key and likely a HUGE PLUS.
