Okay I did something stupid, I did not read the problems that this plugin has until AFTER I deleted all the weather channels and created a few of my own. Now if I go to weather it just kills lowtide and back to the main menu of AppleTV. I tried to reinstall it but it says its already installed, is there a way to fix this without uploading the hacked firmware again? I know I did something dumb and totally retarded I am just hoping someone else has done as well and knows how to fix. Thanks!

UPDATE: Disregard, I just went ahead and uploaded the jb firmware again and started over.

stuck

Folks, I am trying to JB my apple tv 2g with no luck. I am suspecting the micro-USB cable but not sure. When I connect the device to the mac, the white light on the device starts blinking, however, the mac shows no sign of anything being connected, iTunes does not show the device, and pwnage tool keeps telling me to connect the USB device after it finishes creating the restore file. I am using a micro-usb cable from a cell phone.

The fact that the TV light blinks tells me it knows its connected, but I don't know what's going on on the mac side. Is iTunes supposed to show the device as soon as it's connected? or will it see it only when it's in DFU mode? Pwnage tool does not seem to see the device either as the DFU button is disable and the message is to connect the device to the USB port.

One more question, before the device is connected to the mac, does it matter what its state was when disconnected from the normal TV? Is it supposed to be in sleep mode? Does it matter?

Also I have tried connecting it with and without power cable connected. Doesn't make any difference.

Is there cable known to work that someone has ordered for this?

I got my cable from here:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=4867&seq=1&format=2

This worked fine to Jailbreak my ATV2. Only $2 and got it within 3-4 days, very quick.

I was trying to play with new atv and got the following questions:
* Is there any place for log-files? Where did NSLog() put all messages?
* Can I start lowtide from console? Without "unable to register bootstrap port com.apple.CARenderServer: 44c" error?
* Or maybe anyone have working code for OpenGL controller?

I'm having a similar problem. Micro usb cable plugged into ATV, no light comes on. Have checked the cable and it works with my digital camera. Is there a particular type of cable that wont work?

I have made changes to weather.plist to edit/add new location, but nitotv seems to be ignoring the changes. Can figured out what else to change. Has anyone figured this out? I've rebooted the TV, etc. Wont see the changes. I even removed all locations except mine, it will still display all original locations in the list.

Finally found the correct file to change:
/User/Library/Preferences/com.nito.nitoTV.weather.plist

The file that I was changing (and does not appear to be used) was:
/Applications/Lowtide.app/Appliances/nitoTV.frappliance/weather.plist

I spent hours fighting with OSX running on a Dell inspirion netbook and a Lenovo X200 running W7 and it always failed in the restore JB firmware phase and itunes seldom saw the tethered ATV2. My fix was to put a powered USB hub between the computer and the ATV2. Then itunes saw the ATV2 as soon as it was connected and the restore JB firmware phase worked.

From other work I know that thinkpads have pretty aggressive USB current limiting compared to many computers.That little guy just pulls too much current!

I have not tried it but the over current problem suggests connecting the ATV2 mains power and the micro USB cable may help as well. Perhaps the order may be significant: micro USB cable first then connect the AC power after 10 seconds.

I installed Nitotv on my ATV2

and installed the mainmenu weather plugin. I don't like it, now I can't see new release movies from netflix or itunes

does anyone know the command to uninstall The weather plugin?

Wifi settings loss question

Sorry I hope this hasn't been covered before...tried scanning but found a lot of off topic stuff like jailbreaking. Anyway...trying not to hijack thread but I was wondering if I had to do anything special to use the nitoTV wifi fix. I have my ATV jailbroken with pwnagetool and it loses the wifi settings every restart and I thought nitoTV had a solution for that. I'm running nitoTV v5 but it still loses the wifi settings. Any ideas/solutions on that? Do I need to enable something or install a plugin? TIA and keep up the great work!!

Finally found the correct file to change:
/User/Library/Preferences/com.nito.nitoTV.weather.plist

The file that I was changing (and does not appear to be used) was:
/Applications/Lowtide.app/Appliances/nitoTV.frappliance/weather.plist
I know this is an old thread, but someone might stumble upon it as I did. Anyway, I had the issue of Weather crashing after trying to change the weather zipcode in the application itself. So, I cyberducked into it (via SSH, of course), downloaded the file mentioned above (the one in the User/Library), and edited it via TextWrangler so that it looked like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key></key>
<dict>
<key>name</key>
<string></string>
</dict>
<key>0</key>
<dict>
<key>location</key>
<string>27713</string>
<key>name</key>
<string>Durham</string>
<key>units</key>
<string>f</string>
</dict>
</dict>
</plist>

Feel free to copy/paste this into your file, then upload it to the ATV via Cyberduck and reboot (via terminal just type killall AppleTV). Voila! Now it works. I think the error was that there was an entry in the <key></key> part that prevented the plist from executing properly.
