My system arrived today. The UPS guy kinda slammed it on its side on the wall near in front of my house. I could hear a loud thud.

The foam inside the box was also broken from it. Thank goodness the machine doesn't have a mark on it, and work really well so far. The only sound in my room with it is the light hum of the external HDD's inside the cabinet in my desk.

I called again today. No information. Nothing. Ordered Feb 15th, still 'Processing"

I hate the wait game, especially when people are receiving their who ordered WEEKS after I did.

They kind of have to anticipate rough shipping, and I suspect that careful packing helps when it comes to negotiating contract shipping rates. I used to regularly ship things to a publisher where overnight coast to coast shipping was often marked as less than $5 on their account number. I'm not sure why it was displayed at all. Anyway that was Fedex, not UPS. Fedex usually charges more though.

Given the delay in shipping the nMP, imagine having Fedex break yours during delivery...that would be the worst.

That is unlikely. The packing foam serves a purpose. If the box hits a hard surface, it experiences a very fast change in velocity. The internal contents experience a slower change due to the foam being in place. It is there to absorb shock. If boxes were never dropped during shipping, they could cut down on packaging in both materials used and total volume.

How many out there waiting for a particular shipping timeframe before ordering?

Sounds like anyone waiting is not certain they want to purchase and are using the delay as an excuse. If you ordered when Apple began accepting orders you'd probably have it by now. Just saying....

Not so. My current oMP is still allowing me to do my job but it's getting a bit long in the tooth. This is the longest I've ever gone without buying a new computer (the reason I went MacPro from iMac). However I'm not an early adopter so am happy to let the delivery times come down to 2-3 weeks at which time I'll order mine. By this time, new Thunderbolt equipment will be available, new choices for monitors etc

No excuses for not buying now - I'm just in a position where I can make the transition to a new computer when my criteria are matched rather than having to join a long queue.

The foam certainly did do its job. The main issue I had was the computer box didn't have any padding, or even rough paper similar to what amazon uses inside the brown shipping box.

There was nearly a 2inch gap all round, and the Mac Pro box could be heard bobbing, and sliding around inside. They should just have crammed some scrap paper in there.

I have capable computers to get my work done, so not in any rush to get it. But you are right, if I was more certain I would have already ordered it. Since my main workstation is a PC, the move is a little more complicated than just a basic upgrade.

Also the wait allows any issues from a new product to work themselves out, more TB devices and 4K monitors to become available, and developers to make some advances in their OpenCL implementation.
