No carry-on, and 6.4 kilos empty?

Great if you're billing baggage charges to the company.

That's not meant as a slam. I recently was at baggage claim and I realized that some of the people waiting for their bags were familiar TV news faces. They got their bags and disappeared - but the "roadies" collected about 40 pieces of audio and video and lighting gear and loaded it into the secondary van.

It was nice to chat with Anderson, however.

Keeping them honest eh?

I've been using an older model of this bag for short trips. The laptop portion can hold a 17" MacBook Pro (even though it says it only supports 15") and if you take the dividers out of the bottom you can fit a Mac Pro though it as a little snug, then you have the top portion available for cables.

Got any photos of your nMP in the bottom compartment?

Got my nMP in yesterday night. While i was setting everything up on it, i realized i had a camera backpack that i never use any more and it might fit the nMP.

Got a rough layout right now, i'll work more on it later today.

Its a Lowepro Flipside 400 AW.

Its got a front compartment, long/tall enough to hold a Apple wireless keyboard and loads of accessories (usb/TB cables, power cable, surge protector). Bright side to camera bags are they're made to hold lots of random items and most come with rain covers.

But for now this will do until i decided on something permanent. I want something that has a laptop spot so it can hold a portable monitor. Looking at a few other bags/cases at the moment like these: Option 1, Option 2, Option 3.

Option 1 is like the 400 AW but deeper, my current bag is just perfect, but slightly too snug for me, plus it has a laptop compartment.

Another carrying bag/case i'm looking at is a Pelican 1560 case. I have a 1510 for my camera gear and another Pelican case for my guns :D, i definitely trust them.

Whichever bag/case i purchase, i'll end up ordering one of these dry bags to go with it, don't want any tiny particles to make their way into the nMP while its in travel (pelican cases with pick-n-pluck foam can shed little bits of foam).

Might end up buying a bag for now and the case somewhere down the road. :D

Small update

Moved certain dividers slightly, got a better fit for the nMP in the bag. Probably will be using the bag until i find a similar bag that can also hold a 15.6'' portable monitor.

Did order a Pelican 1560 case for it last night, should be here Monday.

Curious for pix of the pelicase :)

It should arrive around noon where i'm at (currently 1:56am). Should take me around an hour or two to pick and pluck the foam (i got a good idea of the layout already). After i'm done i'll post some photos of it!

I would suggest Tenba. They produce the best cases for shipping photography gear.

In addition, they also have bags for shipping computers. I'm betting they will come up with a case specific to the nMP. Until then, the top loading Air Case can probably satisfy your needs.

I just bought a second-hand Tenba specifically made for the cMP, so I'm sure they will do one for this.

One thing to think about (more for the cMP than the nMP) is the weight issue. Pelicans are awesome, but add quite a lot of weight to the equation. Tenbas seems to do the job as lightly as possible, using air. For me its the difference btw extra baggage charges and not.

This made me laugh.

I've been working with computers since the 1970s. Looking back to the time when I first managed a datacenter with the capacity of this mac pro puts the clock back to the early to mid 90s. Huge boxes from SGI and pyramid, several IBM SP/2 frames, hundreds of 5-1/4" spindles, FDDI and 10 base-2 networks, several thousand users.

You are giving advice on a backpack for carrying this while you walk to work! Not a convoy of tractor trailer trucks, a backpack. Damn.

I feel the same way about our phones. I was in the data center business briefly, and it makes me giggle that there's more CPU power and RAM in the iPhone now than there was in some of the 2U and 3U servers we were using.

I looked long and hard for a well protected case solution for my nMP. I didn't want to carry a huge case, and I didn't want a soft shell. Found this one on Amazon after confirming the dimensions and its pretty much the perfect size! You can get much else inside of it, but I only need to transport it between my home and office, both of which have their own monitors and peripherals.

This was the smallest hard-case. Theres a good 2-3" on each side of the nMP, so not much room to grow but plenty enough to protect it. And $95 shipped, it was the cheapest option I could find as well.

Interesting thread. When I bought my Mac Pro, to skirt customs I carried my Mac Pro in a plastic bag and nothing else. I made no effort to hide or protect it and security definitely didn't care.
