Just got a new 6core, 16gb, 512gb, d500 nMP. It crashed multiple times since I got it. Both under load and at idle. Using multiple different programs. This is seriously frustrating.

If you used migration assistant from a machine with an old OS, that could be it.

Mavericks causes problems with some old drivers. For example -- a mouse driver can cause all sorts of problems if it hates Mavericks.

So a tad more info helps

Updated your nMP OSX 10.9.1 yet?

This update is recommended for all Mac Pro (Late 2013) systems. It includes all updates from OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 plus system-specific enhancements and fixes to improve the stability and compatibility of your Mac.

Gl & Cheers

I've experienced similar behavior with earlier OSX versions. I just dislike the way migration assistant is implemented.

I have not used migration assistant. The crash will occur while using different programs. Citrix, panda bar, freesurfer, safari, or excel. It will happen both when I am putting a load on the computer and when it is performing nominal tasks. The computer will instantly kick off then restart. There will be no error messages after it has rebooted.

Yes I have installed updates, and yes the problems begin. I have checked the console and I do not see any errors logged prior to system crash and reboot. This makes me think hardware/power supply issue. Although after reviewing the logs I can see that I was grossly underestimating the amount of reboots my computer has been having.

Sounds like what my mbp was going to a Tee...and it had a bad ram chip. Boot into Apple hardware test and see what's going on. Even new components sometimes fail.

Maybe one of the dimms is bad. Try process of elimination and see which one it is.

Its one of the new diagnostic features of the new Mac Pro, who knew. :p

Wait until you see how to test the SSD.

Just got off the phone with apple. I did a data capture to log the times that the computer restarted. Apple senior tech is going to send me an advanced replacement to let me transfer files, then send back the old one. They were very helpful during this entire process. I think that the engineers want to look and see what kind of hardware issues were arrising in hopes of catching some quality control issue.

Thanks for the input.

I had the same problem. nMP would just crash and restart randomly. Went thru AppleCare senior advisors and also did log and capture data to send to engineers. They to wanted my machine in what they called "the Capture" team. So I did send it back to Apple and after some emails I did get a replacement bout a week after they received nMP back.
I did do migration from my new MBP instead of my 4,1 MP. Once I got back the new MP I did migration assistance again and thankfully it's all working good now.
He'll it was so bad that senior adv wanted me to totally delete HD and clean reinstall OSX but nMP would shut down and restart during that process.
You gonna have to make some noise to get replacement without going to back of the que. I sent Tim Cook emails and they built mines in 4 days

Good luck to ya

he already wrote that he is getting an advance replacement; he doesn't have to send his nMP in until he receives the new one.
