photogs--
did any of you seriously consider a late-2013 iMac (27", i7 3.5) as an alternative to the nMP?

pricing works out to ~$1,800 lower vs a 6-core/d300 nMP if one factors in the included TB display.

Already have monitors, and don't trust the iMac for a longer term purchase... and that glossy screen thing.

----------

i think the $10/mo is for 1 year only. after that it goes to the normal rate....and who knows what adobe will o in the future. that's my real issue--there's no longer-term guarantee.

This. No control. They could force you to get the full suite next year, and raise the price of that.

1) I have CS6 as a fall back. Just save everything in the compatibility mode and go back to CS6. All I lose is features.

2) Do I like it? No, not really but, where else are you going to go if you need the power?

yes, you own cs6 as i own cs5. i guess there are some folks out there who do not own an earlier version and thus do not have such a fall-back.

yes--

i hear you. i think the subscription model really causes one to consider this question: does a person really need the power? i use LR all the time (and own it) and have found that much of what i used to do in PS is done in LR now. i occasionally use PS and would prefer faster speeds in CC taking advantage of newer HW, but those gains are a small fraction of my day.

with the MP3,1/iMac 2013 i've historically drawn the line at the subscription model as the performance gains with CC were minimal if any. when the nMP arrives for me perhaps i need to reexamine this question to see if the gains are now enough to override my less frequent use.

I use Topaz and Nik filters... I got Lightroom with the CC deal but I never done anything with it. I am stuck in my workflow of Photo Mechanic and Photoshop with the filters above...
Am i wrong or those filters are available also for Lightroom ? Especially the Nik suite should come to you at no extra cost

You've got hit on the reason I still comfortably run CS3 and will only need to upgrade to something else for file compatibility. I don't need the power.

Adobe hasn't introduced a feature that has made my day-to-life as a designer significantly easier since somewhere around Photoshop 6.

Most of the filters do work in Lr. Some of the filters I use don't. With the Topaz Labs filters, there is a work around by using their overarching program. I use Remask quite a bit and it does not work with Lr because it requires layers to work.

For most photographers, LR (or Aperture or Capture One) is far more important than the new bells and whistles in PS anyway. And LR is gradually gaining more capabilities as well.

I'll reconsider the sub once there are some compelling reasons (or when the next pay version of LR is out) but getting locked into one vendor is bad.
