Interesting thing about the new Mac Pro, which is that it doesn't have a new electronic smell like you normally get from a Mac Pro or MacBook Pro. Instead after it has been running for a while in my room I smell something from it that is more like a bakery smell. Kind of like baking pastries right before they're about to burn.

That's not a very good description, but the best I can do. It really smells kind of like some kind of glue or ester kind of thing, perhaps the heatsink compound. Anybody else notice this?

I'm not expert but if you're smelling something akin to cooking, then that may not be all that normal, i.e., a component, or substance is burning that shouldn't be.

Sure that's the easy conclusion but it's not that kind of electronics overheating smell, and I can't get the machine to heat up much anyhow or stress out no matter what I try. The main point is that it surprisingly doesn't smell like new electronics but this different, darker kind of smell.

These are probably shipping out the day after they are built; my suspicion is that this is the powder coating on the heat sink. That's the only thing large enough to dominate the smell enough.

Mine has the same scent. Especially under load. Goes well with coffee.

Hopefully it goes away, I wonder how safe it is to breathing in burning chemicals. I mean if its producing a smell, then you're intaking chemicals which may or may not be all that healthy

all computer power supplies ever emit PCB's. having electronics in your house probably won't kill you, but they do add to the chemicals you're ingesting.

I think you may need to remember to replenish the cinnamon-nutmeg in the nMP warming tray. I haven't discovered the secret location for the tray, but I know there is one. Users may experience a variety of scents as Apple continues to experiment with the proper potpourri mix.

I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's Foxconn's US division. Outsourcing contracts are usually single vendor for a variety of reasons and Foxconn has operations in the U.S.
