Exactly right in my case. My old appletv can already stream from my computer, plus have a hard drive. I'm not interested in $.99 rentals. If the appletv isn't jailbroken to take apps soon, I'll be looking at a Roku or Googletv. I want to disconnect my computer from my tv. This new appletv just won't do that.

Are you serious? That's exactly what the new AppleTV does. Allows you to not have to hook up your computer to your TV and stream whatever iTunes media you want to it.

Sorry Apple, just won't cut it for me. Looking for a box that does Hulu and Netflix. Appletv is too limited. They should learn from the iPod Touch. There is a reason it beats the less expensive iPod nano, APPS. Dumbest thing Apple has done in years.

<in the iphone 4 Tune> If you Don't won't an Apple Tv DON'T BUY IT, if you got one and you don't like it, Bring it Back ;)

I do have one, and I do like it. I just like the new one less. I think the point is that we've waited years for a decent AppleTV update, and all we get is Netflix? Netflix is a paid service that not everyone has. I can watch Hulu, Netflix, and play games on my iPad, but I can't on my AppleTV. A little ass backwards IMHO. Steve even mentioned that people don't want their computers hooked up to their TVs. Well Steve, you failed. Until I can do Hulu, Pandora, Neflix and a few other shows(Colbert Report) directly from AppleTV, my computer is going to be directly hooked into my TV.

No AppStore was my biggest disappointment. I have 2 AppleTV's and was ready to give one to my grandparents and order the new one. But since I have my AppleTV hacked for XBMC its a no go for now. Hopefully this one gets hacked too, but who knows how long that will take or how long it will take Apple to add an AppStore. I honestly thought an AppStore was a given.

I can live without 1080p, and local storage, but I was dying to see what apps would be made for it.

Not bingo, think outside the house. If you had a friend who had Apple TV, wouldn't it ultimately be more convenient to bring an iOS device full of movies to begin streaming?

But this assumes that Apple will let you stream content to an Apple TV that isnt yours?

I can see it now, you go to connect and the Apple TV asks for your Apple ID and then lets you know this isn't your unit...

Maybe its a little Tin Foil Hat thinking, but not out the question when it comes to Apple.

Really, what is so difficult about this?

It's streaming, not syncing.

Syncing = copying data. Streaming has nothing to do with that. There is nothing illegal about this. You stream your movie on a friend's TV, and then once you leave the house, iPad in hand, that content is gone from that house. No trace, nothing.

Because of this, there should be no need for any type of home sharing, itunes authorization/validation, etc.

My theory of course, but doesn't this make sense?

Just to play Devil's Advocate, but since when does Apple's do exactly what makes the most sense?

If there's a buck to be made, Apple will try to take advantage of it. In this case, you've already paid for a copy of the movie---I'm sure they'd prefer that your friends rent it from iTunes.

Again, just thinking out loud based on Apple track record.

I seriously don't care about games, would be a nice gimmick, but if you wanna play on a hdtv you got to get a real console, despite this the apple tv is definitely am epic fail.
But i do wonder thou if it will be an epic win with an epic jailbreak, what do you guys think?
Could all we dream of be realized by a jailbreak?

I'm just hoping that apple comes to its senses and adds app store support in one of the futures updates and soon. Please Apple, pretty please.

I have a real console. I want simple indie games like on my iPhone on the TV. Using iPhones as controllers could offer great diversity.
