Keep your eye on the Verizon because eventually the Cingularity of the Telegraph will come to an end and we will all be Sprinting out to see what we deals we can get when the carrier wars really start.

In all the many months I've spent working with corporate IT folks (Gizmo freaks) in Europe, I never once saw someone having a video chat on their cell.

The first day my friends got computers with Webcams, we did webcam chats for a few minutes, but then as the novelty wore off we do that less and less. To me a cam would be nice, but certainly isn't a killer feature. Again, if I need one, I'll buy a 3rd party unit.

Then it must not happen if you never seen it in all the months you were there! Just seems crazy for the manufactures to keep putting them on their handsets if they're not being used? I know for me there has been more then a few times that it would have come in handy in my line of work which is in the wireless industry. But thats just me

As Zemzabob & MM Maniac seem to be saying, obviously there is some pressure placed on companies like Apple from the networks. (for whatever reason- be it financial or simply logistical).

Roland G.- Thanks, spelling it out helps. Maybe it wouldn't really be practical.

but

J_maddison- I think Flexability IS important. But maybe we are a minority.

From the comforts of my coach- I managed a good 30 minutes holding a heavy book in my hand. no problem. I didn't feel the need to try a mirror- although i get the point.

Highly doubt AT&T had a say on the iPad. More like Apple nixing it 1st Gen and add it 2nd Gen to drive sales; simple markting guys.

Also remember that report where Apple was buying 3.2MP and 5.0MP cameras? We know where the 3.2MP cameras went, I wonder where the other 5.0MP cameras went.

I would say in the new iphones and the next Gen ipad. I don't know if at&t had anything to do with Apple not putting the cams in the ipad or not but I doubt it, but I do know they have stopped many phones on the network from having forward facing cams before.

Perhaps but:

1. I doubt many people would video phone in public

2: The ipad was launched as something between a laptop and a cell phone (or at the very least a laptop and an ipod). You're right, I know few people that use their cell phones on UMTS networks to video call- But i know a hell of lot that use VOiP software on their laptops.

Besides making more $ down the road or VC via wifi only option. I believe Apple could of thought they weren't providing the best experience for the buyer and decided to hold off until they were able to.

An example would be useful to add to your credibility. Only phones AT&T has any say are the ones they work with handset makers to put out.

I think every iPhone in the same room with the iPad is a potential camera. The apps are already there to tie them together. Why have a camera you cannot point, when you can have a wireless one, or twenty?

Which happens to be all the phones on their network! Why do you think the first gen iphone didn't have MMS? think that was apple's ideal think again?

Now this is getting interesting...
