There is some new form of the Chat today. I personally hope, they can make an iPad version of the site. Something a little more intimately designed with photo/video upload would be perfect.

Is this new chat working on your iPad? And if so can you screenshot it and post it. I still do not have chat on mine today.

You guys still use Facebook? That's so last decade.

I've pretty much stopped using Facebook. With all the crap they keep adding on there, its pretty much worthless. I remember back when it was just wall posts, pokes, messages, photos, and profiles. Now its bloatware.

I don't give a damn if you harvested some peas on Farmville, girl I studied with in Astronomy 115 Freshman year!

How many of you still use MySpace? Or even further showing my age, Xanga or Friendster? Yeah, I expect Facebook to suffer a similar fate before too long. I even read a study the other day that said blogging and blog readership is on the decline in the, from what I remember, younger than 20 demographic, and is starting to stagnate in others. People are ADHD and want to stick to short snippets on Twitter. I hated it at first, but am starting to come around, especially with beautiful iPhone clients like Tweetie. I like following people that post interesting links or otherwise convey profound insight on the topics that I enjoy. Not the ones that talk about how they're taking a crap.

Ok, I'm finished rambling...for now. :p

I think it's gold that most people that tell me social networking is rubbish use the "I don't want to know when people are taking a crap" line. Classic stuff.

And I agree completely about the whole Farmville crap. Clogs my Facebook homepage constantly. But it's useful for chat (even though it's implementation is quite rubbish) as I don't know many that use MSN Messenger anymore where I'm from and AIM never really took off in Australia.

I don't feel I would need a designated Facebook app for my iPad. Can easily create a link to the Safari page on my homescreen and have already downloaded IM+ chat client for when my iPad arrives. Sorted.

When I first got my iPad I transferred my Facebook iPhone app to it. Saw that it looked like crap on it and started looking for an iPad app. Was disappointed and went back to using the iPhone app. In a few mins it dawned on me, duh just use Safari.

The Farmville crap is annoying but you can filter those out. Facebook has grown old, especially when my mother in law and my wife's grandmother, aunt etc pick through my profile and comments and try to cause trouble.

I would like to see what they could do with an iPad app for it though. Ienvision something like the way the message slide out in mail.

In FB, hover just to the right of the offending notification, click the "hide" button, and then select "hide all posts from (offending application)". Poof - they never show up in your newsfeed again. Problem solved.

I wonder the same. Even tweet deck doesn't support Facebook. Web looks great but you cant do all features

Good news for you then... Twitter bought the developing firm that makes Tweetie.

I'm having the issue where my online friends do not show up in facebook via safari. I have tried restarting the ipad, clearing history.. is there something I'm missing anyone else having this issue?

lite.facebook.com
Click on 'Chat' in the upper left hand corner. :)

Not perfect, but it is a workaround until Facebook re-works their site to be more standards compliant.

Don't need it. The full facebook website works for me. I just can't play farmville. Soo sad *sarcasm*

I stopped using facebook a year ago and I feel bad for everyone whos addicted. PEople spend HOURS on there a day

I really think the iPad fb app is on the way. Looking at it her third party ipad apps my expectations for a fb app are fairly high.

I just love how folks clog a thread with their opinions about social networking.

Meanwhile, useful information is buried. The thread originally asked about the iPad version of Facebook. No one knows for sure when or if it's going to happen. Here's the relevant info, re-posted so people searching this out can actually find it amongst the opinions about Farmville:

  • There is currently no Facebook app for iPad.. only the iPhone app.
  • The full site, for most people, is not displaying the chat bar in Safari. It seems FB took that out because it was incorrectly rendering in the center of the page, in an immovable fashion.
  • The current works arounds are either (a) a third party app such as IM+ (b) Safari and lite.facebook.com or (c) the Facebook for iPhone app.

I hope others can add useful information to help folks out.
