I don't care about social media so I could care less whether Twitter or FB are integrated on iDevices. However, I respect that others clearly others do care.

Is it possible that this suggests that Jobs is just a teeny bit vindictive!!??

Facebook is living on borrowed time and Apple knows it

Funny, it seems like I've been hearing this for the past 2-3 years, and in that time period Facebook has grown exponentially and has found a much larger audience then MySpace ever found. I'll come back in 2 years when Facebook has another couple hundred million users and see if you still think it's on borrowed time.

I don't know a single person who users Twitter (ranging from high school students to small business owners). I've yet to meet a person who understands it's purpose. As I see it, Twitter is there so that you can tell the world you just took a dump or ate a ham sandwich. On the other hand, I know very few people who do not use Facebook at this point. Facebook may have some issues with privacy, but for the average user the benefits outweigh the risks and I think Facebook will be around for a long time to come, unlike Twitter or Google+.

I would give Facebook at least another two years until it goes the way of facebook and something else takes it's place. Twitter By its very nature of being a mirco blog and used by more than just social media could be the one to jump the curve and not dye off.

Twitter isn't versatile though. Facebook has so many different features, it's status updates alone are basically the whole of what Twitter is. In my opinion the only thing that could take over from Facebook would be another feature-behemoth (possibly Google+), people want to share more than a photo and a sentence these days.

Of course Zuckerberg won't care about iOS. They plan on launching their own FB phone, that's where the integration is. If they sided with iOS, their FB phone won't stand a chance (not that it will to begin with).

Hi, I use Twitter (now you know someone... sort of). I work in post production and follow others that work in post production. Unfortunately I miss out on the the worthless Tweets and only get the ones that help me network, find out about industry events, learn tips & tricks and spread the word about my own projects. Twitter, like a lot of things in life, is what you make of it.

I think the simplicity of what Twitter offers is generally one of it's largest selling points to those that like using it. People like to talk about "Facebook vs Twitter", but the reality is that they are two very different animals.

With that said, Twitter will not be the one to topple Facebook. Someday there will be a service that dethrones Facebook, but it won't happen anytime soon. Someone is going to have to create an entirely new experience rather than just copy what is already out there and make minor improvements. Facebook has done a great job of making themselves "sticky".

I guess it depends on how you use it. It speaks volumes about its users here more than the infrastructure itself.

I deal with US based distributors and publishers, mostly on the west coast. So most of my email+contact work kicks off at 6pm-1am, when everyone else in the UK has clocked off work. I had to find out some legal things last night (nothing sensitive). Put out a quick message out and within 2 minutes I had loads of great advice so I was able to get my work done a day before it should have.
Just because I keep some really useful contacts on Facebook and info that would have been too sensitive in the highly public view of Twitter.

And that was just last night.
If you think Facebook is all about ridiculous apps and teens keeping in touch, well, you too could be a
“********* A**hole”

I use it to keep in touch with fans and writers. It's quicker and more public than email so we can bounce ideas off each other publicly, or drive up support, or comment on upcoming events. There's a lot more communication through my companies Twitter account than the Facebook fan page, but I rely on Facebook for contacts. Each has its own benefit.

What you have described is essentially how Android handles these types of integrations.

No, what I have described is proper software design. Hardcoding in support for one social media over others is just a bad hack. A proper integration framework that lets anyone plug into it and lets the user thus choose what he sees or not (customizations! the horror!) makes for a much better experience.

I would also say that just because you don't use something doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the OS. I don't think one more button in the sharing menu is really going to be the end of you as a user.

It's not the end, but it's annoying. Enough annoyance and I might just move to another platform that does less invasive stuff. It hurts the overall user experience.

Aren’t we jumping to conclusions here as usual? Nowhere in the Robert Scoble (who is this guy anyway) tweet does it say the quote came from Steve Jobs.

I generally dislike facebook. I only stay on as my friends are on facebook. My friends dislike face book and are only on because their friends are on facebook.

(though some have deleted their account)

Only preteens and senior citizens still use facebook, and those are not apple's target demographic.

You couldn't care less. Or maybe you can care less, perhaps that is a possibility.

Robert Scoble has zero credibility for anyone who has observed him over the years. No reliable source for such drivel.
